Thankful For The Small Things

I'm thinking that it is hard for a woman to restrict both her food intake and her non-food purchases at the same time. I've lost another pound (thank you, yes, I do feel great, except for this gnawing feeling in my stomach); but I keep buying things online. Things that have been sitting on my Amazon wishlist for 6 months, say...and some more fun workbooks for the kids...and a bunch of educational CD's that put science to music I've been eyeing for years....

(I must say, that until you've learned about DNA to the tune of "Shortnin' Bread," you haven't really lived. This is why I home school.)

I haven't even hit the yarn sites yet; but I can feel it coming. Where do you buy your Cascade 220, Amy? I think I'll be ordering some next time I want a cookie.

You know what? Nothing to complain about today - I lost a pound, I got my 15-minute walk, only one kid wept through dinner, and my husband has not exposed me to a media firestorm of epic proportions. What's not to like about that?

  3. Sounds like a day of hungry excellence. I was always ravenous on WW, but I lost weight.

Now I'm just eating Cadbury mini-eggs and thinking that I could only put away the bag of 'em if I bought some expensive hand creme on Ebay.

  4. So I have to choose between losing weight and losing money?

  5. I like the theory. I am currently restricted in my non-food purchases and I CANNOT STOP EATING. And I can't stop buying stuff at the convenience store. And I NEVER BUY STUFF AT THE CONVENIENCE STORE. UNTIL NOW. AND APPARENTLY NOW I CAN'T STOP TYPING IN ALL CAPS. HELP ME. I HAVE AN ILLNESS. OR SOMETHING.

  7. I bought lots before The Fabric Place, a small, local chain store, went out of business. So it was on sale and barely counts as a yarn purchase. Now there's no place close by that sells it, but Webs does (www.yarn.com) for $7 per skein. It goes on sale, though. Last summer I got some for about $4 per skein.

  8. i totally understand the food/shopping thing. it seems like i have to always have a little reward of some kind for myself -- food, books, yarn! those are all PERFECT. we better not get together anytime soon -- those are three of my most favorite things.

  9. Oh, you're funny! And Webs (yarn.com) is a great place for Cascade 220 - especially if you buy in bulk; you get a discount!

  10. Wait a sec, if I go on a diet I can buy more stuff?! 'Cause I really do need to lose some weight... and if doing that means I can go crazy on Amazon and at a yarn store, I am totally in!

  11. Hard? - it's pure madness to try to do both -
Dr DC prescribes a little retail therapy to ease the hunger pangs!

  13. I was all over the ribbon sites yesterday, thinking about getting back into my hair bow thing. Didn't occur to me that it could be a side effect of morning sickness.

  15. I think you might be on to something here.
I have been craving all sorts of chocolate and cheesecake lately, and it's been a while since I've bought anything on eBay.
I think I need to go bid on something.

You only had one cry through dinner?
    Cool.
I have one who is at this very moment, screaming at the top of her lungs because I sent her to her room because she was screaming in my ear, because her brother hit her because she called him stupid because he was imitating her crying because I told the kids that if they didn't clean up the mess in the family room, I would eat the chocolate eggs I bought to give them as a treat.

I am SO eating her chocolate egg.

  17. Another successful day. You better get to be quickly before something fouls it up.

    KEEP BELIEVING

  18. Aren't you thankful for those days when there is little to complain about? Congrats on the pound-that's a box of butter.

  19. Someone actually did a study on this. They found that self discipline can only be maintained in a finite number of areas, so if you are dieting, its hard not to impulse buy, and if you are cutting back on spending, its harder to diet.
