Business Trip? Really?

I was dealing pretty well with the prospect of Larry's being away for the week (and really, it's only 6 days, so if I did complain, Mary Alice would have to call me a wimp - her husband is away for 6 months). Where was I? Oh, yes - so I was all fine and dandy with his deserting me again until I discovered that he had been perusing this website prior to his departure. That's right - Larry was researching where to find the best beer in his destination city. Tough trip, eh?

I sense an online yarn purchase or two in my immediate future.

I picked up a computer chair last week at a yard sale - the basic kind, with wheels and a little lever to move the seat up and down. Only 10 dollars! When I brought it home, you would have thought I had given my youngest 3 kids a trip to Disneyworld - they were having that much fun with it. Hours of fun. I didn't think I was depriving them that much.

Anyone who wants to hear an excellent explanation of the economic crisis (as opposed to the drivel I type here), listen to this episode from This American Life. [Edited to add: here's a shorter version that sums it up.] Even you NPR haters should check it out (oh, I know you're out there, although it's beyond me how anyone can enjoy a Saturday without hearing Scott Simon's voice on Weekend Edition)...

  1. Yipe, if I had 6 kids, I'd FREAK about my hubby being gone for 6 days. And probably seethe at the thought of him enjoying craft beer far away in a place with only grownups!

You have my best wishes. Hope you survive the week.

  2. I have two of those office chairs by my computer. One for me to sit in, and one for my three year old to spin around in.
    Money well spent.
Except he's figured out how to lower the armrest on my chair while I am leaning on it.
    Not good.

  3. I guess it's good I got the cheap kind without the armrest...

  4. I once bought an old electric typewriter for $7.00 at a garage sale. It entertained several kids for several years!

  7. Oh I know all about that website. Hubby checks it out often. Just to see where his favorite beverages are being served.

  9. I got a chair at a thrift store once that simple spins around. For $10. I know what you mean with the entertainment value. If I got mine one with a lever yet I'd probably be back in the running for Mom of the Year.

  10. Did you come visit my blog so I would be reminded to visit yours? Because, if so, I want you to know that I have been happily reading all along, but feeling totally unenergetic about commenting. How lazy is that? I've hardly commented anywhere lately because, you know, all the typing, and clicking, and heaven help the ones that have a code thingy I have to enter to prove I'm really a person because that is just too much and I give up with a sigh.
We actually have a home video of our kids spinning in an office chair my husband got for Christmas. Around and around and around and around. I'm gonna puke just thinking about it.

  12. First of all, because I keep forgetting to tell you, I LOVE your political truth meter. Awesome.

Secondly, my husband would be searching online to find the best martinis.

  13. I think a week by yourself is just as hard because you don't have time to get used to it. I'm sure he needs the good beer just to take his mind off of missing you....

  14. I agree iwth Nora...if he needs beer to take his mind off of missing you, then you definitely need yarn to take your mind off of missing him...
