This Just In...

In the health community's ongoing effort to confuse us typical fat consumers, I present to you this article from The New York Times. Essentially, vitamins can be good for you, unless of course you exercise (or diet...or do anything else healthy, I guess), in which case they can be bad.

...antioxidants in general cause certain effects that inhibit otherwise positive effects of exercise, dieting and other interventions.
Of course, now I have to wonder why Weight Watchers tells us to take a vitamin every day. And they tell us to get some exercise. Are they trying to stay in business by keeping us coming back? Is it all a big conspiracy to keep America fat?

And can we just take vitamins instead of exercising? Wouldn't that be cool?

I KNOW it's a conspiracy. The same people are behind the boring labeling of vegetables and the exciting labeling of everything else laden with high fructose corn syrup. And public funding for road construction and automaker bailouts instead of handing every American a bicycle and providing safe passage on which to ride them. They want us fat and helpless...but the great question is: WHY?

  2. I've gotten used to the exercising. It's the fact that I have to eat less that's killing me. (I'd still take a pill instead of exercising if I could.)

  3. I love a good conspiracy theory!
Weight Watchers does seem to create life long clients so perhaps you are on to something!

  5. Another example of how science doesn't really improve on what we already have. Eating fruit and exercising is going to be better than any supplement you can get at the store.

  6. I've tried the vitamins only route. It doesn't seem to work.

And the answer is Fort Detrick (Frederick, MD).

  7. Of course, the NY Times hasn't been the greatest place to get truth in the past 6 years. Just sayin'.

  12. And, once again, science leaves people confused and unsure. Most likely, we'll end up with a return to the currently accepted conventional wisdom and be told that vitamins and exercise are both good for you, even when taken together.

  13. I'm confused. Think I'll go eat a donut and get my brain straight. Cause that's the next new thing-donuts increase brain power. Really.
