New Beginnings

Today? I deleted 10878 emails from my Yahoo inbox. All at once. I had to close my eyes when I hit delete, though - it felt like bungee jumping, only without the extreme height. Or the bungee cords. Or the part where you fall a thousand feet or so...

10,878 messages - that's a lot of RAM. Or gigabytes. Or whatever. My computer feels way lighter now. Imagine - I have only 1 (1!) message in my inbox. A burden has been lifted off my shoulders. My new existence, free of email guilt and procrastination, has commenced.

Who would think a fresh start could be so simple?

  1. Oh my gosh, that must feel better. I start getting panicky if I have more than 10 emails in my inbox (I have a few more saved in folders, but not where I have to look at them.) I'm a compulsive email declutterer.

  2. Goodnees! Did it take forever for your email to load every morning? I keep my inbox down to 30 or less.

  3. I just deleted about 5,000, so I guess I have about half your joy! It's enough. But my Outlook Express is still not an express but a local...

  4. I have 22,929 in my gmail box right now--it doesn't seem to slow anything down. Is there a reason to delete?

Also, your picture belongs in my post.

  6. Last summer, I found out the hard way that my mailbox only holds 1000 messages. Unfortunately, on the day it was full, I missed two important work emails.
First you clean out your fridge and now it's your mailbox, seriously, you're making me look bad.

  7. Every now and then, I do a big email purge at work. Hundreds and hundreds gone, just like that. I always feel so much better afterward.

  8. Speaking of the fridge, have you just given up on cleaning it out? Remnants from 8 months ago, perhaps, lingering in the back? Whatever happened to the salsa? Did it whither and die, or give birth to new???

    Where are the pics???

  9. I used to have almost 4 years of email saved in PST's on a network drive. Then there was a network glitch and the folders all disappeared. When the engineers fonud them on the back up tapes, they were all empty. I haven't missed them, so I guess they were not important. :)

I am a big, BIG fan of purging. But not in the throwing up sense. There is nothing better than throwing crap away. Or hitting the delete button. Love it. Good for you.

Atta girl! I just did that to about 1,000 emails. I'm sure my rush wasn't as heady as yours, though.

  12. Oh, I so need to purge my earthlink email, but I always start remembering the pundits that say we won't have any letters from friends in 100 years, and I chicken out. I'm never going to do anything with them. I just have to bite the bullet. Soon. Yeah, soon. You brave woman...

  13. I feel left out of the big email purging going on around the web. I only have an AOL addy and it traps all my spam which I remove w one click. The most I've had in 3 days is 68, which doesn't seem outrageous.

    Maybe I'm just not popular.

  15. Ooooh, that's brave. I must confess that I panicked a little bit about what you might have deleted.

  16. Oh, boy. I hope you don't regret this...you know, suddenly realizing that you need some crucial information in one of those.

  17. The last time I deleted a large group of e-mails, I crashed my computer. I'm afraid to do it ever again... hence the 7,434 messages in my inbox (2,528 of them unopened). Perhaps I need your professional help?
