Not Dead Yet

Oh, I WISH...
The children, generous souls that they are, have kindly gifted me the cold they have been passing around.  Naturally, that makes me feel like curling up on the couch with a good book and Words With Friends, in front of a roaring fire, while the ice melts off the trees outside and the wintry winds blow.

But, hey, I'm still a mom, so I didn't get to do that today.  Instead, I drove the girls to Girl Scouts, supervised schoolwork, told assorted young people to PUT THINGS AWAY DAMMIT, and made sure the laundry got done.  Such is the life I have chosen.

But in my next life?  I'm getting myself a salaried position with sick leave.

  1. Isn't it the worst that mom's can't take a real sick day like everyone else in the house? Feel better

  2. I'm pretty sure I have to work even if I'm sick; however, I have not yet had to test this theory.
    Hope you feel better soon!

  3. I often wonder about this "sick leave" I hear the taxpaying citizens talk about...

  4. If you find it, let me know where it is. I've been salaried for 25 years and I've yet to find it. If I have to take time off work because I'm sick, it comes out of my vacation. When I come in sick, and my boss tells me I should go home, I tell him that if the company wants me to stay home, they should have sick leave, because I have to be pretty well incapacitated before I give up any of my precious few vacation days.

  5. I've been sick this week too, but just me, leaving me wondering where we've been that I was the only one to pick up a germ.

Anybody that actually has vacation/sick leave, even if it's all rolled into one, should be pretty darn happy. I waitressed full time, including with bronchitis and mono, because if I didn't work, I didn't get paid. Vacations? I worked double shifts for the week before and after if I wanted to go away. One fellow server worked with hepatitis. Hello, Health Department! What regs? Everybody who goes out to eat should consider that their server probably has no leave whatsoever, and think about that--the owner would rather you eat food served by someone sick than provide basic benefits to employees. (I waitressed at both independent and chain restaurants. They were all the same in regards to benefits: none.)

    1. Oh, don't get me wrong, I do appreciate paid vacation. And salaried beats non-salaried, hands down. Your situation sucked. Mine sucks less, but working sick isn't actually fun, whether you're salaried, hourly or a SAHM.

  6. Why is it the children only willingly share things we really don't want to have? Feel better!

  7. Paid vacation and sick leave ......I have to talk to my boss!
Women keep moving even when we shouldn't.
There is a great movie called the funeral, japanese, subtitles, but there is a scene where the mother is on her death bed. The father and kids are sobbing. Someone sends the father/husband to see the wife. He shuffles over bends down and starts screaming, get up, get up, you need to cook!!!!!!!
This makes me laugh so hard!
Because of how true it is.
Get better! You need to cook!!
