I Have Triumphed

This is what victory looks like, people...

Yes, that's right - after a ridiculous number of hours last night and today spent untangling the painted purple skein of sock yarn that I USED TO love, I have finally managed to conquer its knottiness.  There are 2 balls there because the yarn was split in one place, which probably contributed to my winding problems in the first place.

No, this isn't turning into a knitting blog.  I just needed to vent.  Also, this is what passes for excitement around here.

In fact, it's been so exciting, I forgot to mention that I finally met Juggling Jenn in person a couple of weeks ago.  She was in DC to advocate for better treatment for eating disorders, yet she made time in her busy schedule to get together with me for dinner.  I met her at her hotel and we walked a few blocks to see the White House, something I hadn't done in, oh, about 2 decades.  That's the problem with living near our nation's capital - you take it for granted, and a visiting tourist ends up having to show you around.

We spent a few hours talking about everything and anything - blogging, eating disorders (of course), kids, mental health care.  Jenn was exactly as she appears to be in her blog, which was a relief. We've read each other's posts for just about forever (in blog years), so it felt like catching up with an old friend.

Gosh, I love blogging.  Too bad it's dead.  Soon it will only be old ladies like me left on Blogspot and Wordpress and Typepad.  Everyone else will be all witty on Twitter and annoyingly cloying on Facebook (What a great day! I have the best hubby!), and I will still be here reminiscing about kids and vomit and mice.

And listening to "Glory Days" on my IPod, of course...

  1. You fought the yarn and WON. Congratulations! And lucky you to meet Jenn.
I'm still blogging, but not as regularly as I once was and I'm certainly behind on reading even my favorite bloggers. (Facebook is helping to remind me to click on posts, so I'm glad you holler and wave about it there.) I did go out and take more pictures today, so there's hope that I'll have a third post up this week before I go out of town AGAIN.

  2. So it actually does happen that bloggers meet in real life? That's cool.

I am so glad that you and others are blogging. As for me, I have too much to say to fit into a twitter twut and I can't learn something new like instagram (which, as I understand it, isn't about words, but pictures). I hope to keep blogging for a long time and I hope you do too.

  3. Sounds like you've had a great time lately!! And you defeated the yarn!! That makes for a darn good week in my book.

  4. It's kind of sad that blogging is losing its ground. I love writing my blog. I guess I'll be one of those old ladies, clinging to their blogspot blog too.

  5. It's very satisfying getting yarn untangled! I need to make time to tackle the tangles in our box of yarn someday.

Blogging's not dead, it's just not hip and new. People treat things that aren't hip and new as if they were dead, which is weird. I'm asked all the time about my "dying profession" of violin making, and I have to explain there are more violin makers alive today than any time in history (because there are more people alive today than in any time in history).

  6. I'll still be blogging away in my old age (which I guess is now!). I find Twitter hard to read and Facebook, while it does keep me in touch and up to date with a lot of people, annoys the hell out of me. I love all the super vague posts where it seems the writer wants everyone to beg them for details. GAG!

    1. I know, I can't bear those posts. "I'm so excited!" "Big news for our family!" "Feeling sad..." Dear Lord, it's so high school. Either tell us what is going on or shut up.

  7. I like blogging better since it's a tiny bit more hidden and vague. I just need to get another computer so I can have my turn more often.

  8. Blogging is dead? Darn it. No one told me, and I'm still posting stuff on my blog. I guess I'll change the name of it to "old lady blog" or is that redundant?

  9. I'd like to think blogging isn't dying but evolving. There are still bloggers - real, true, people who actually enjoy meeting and conversing with others online and not just hosting giveaways or sponsoring or whatever, the trick is finding them.

Any YAY for you! I didn't think you'd ever conquer that yarn.

  10. Well I just dusted off the ol' blog, mostly cuz we're traveling again. I only seem to be able to blog about traveling. I need to work on this. But I'm definitely still reading.
