I think the utilities need workers to clean out the substations more than they needed workers to repair outside lines. So they may have have 3 person crews attached to those bucket trucks, and sent one person home with the truck while the other 2 were still cleaning transformers with toothbrushes.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29186394.post-70951999191371707422012-11-14T15:22:16.045-05:002012-11-14T15:22:16.045-05:00I agree the devastation is horrid. So many friends without power, destroyed homes, etc. Donating everywhere there is a place to help. And thankfully I bought candy I hate and have no kids home to bring me candy I like. RI was lucky in that nobody died, but certain areas are unrecognizable. (Don't get me started on the wisdom of building a road and tourist destination on a barrier beach.) I spent an afternoon hauling an unbelievable amount of stuff (including the entire contents of a restaurant kitchen, including at least 100 extra-large cans of tomatoes) out of a salt pond. And I've been feeling guilty ever since that I haven't been able to sign up for another shift--I can only do weekends (kidlets) and I don't always have a spare weekend day (kidlets again).amyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02429539000041713324noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29186394.post-84668192791975010342012-11-14T12:51:45.761-05:002012-11-14T12:51:45.761-05:00What's crazy is that there was a veritable pha...What's crazy is that there was a veritable phalanx of utility trucks returning to Florida on the turnpike on Monday. I live in Central Jersey 30 miles from the coast and my neighborhood looks like a war zone. There are still wires down and roads blocked 2 weeks later. South Jersey got rain and flooding. We got wind. Honestly, I prefer wind - there is no mold growing in my non-flooded house.
