I read an interesting article in our paper yesterday about a man who is taking meticulous care of his wife (she has Huntington's Disease). I was telling Larry (on our date last night) how impressed I was by the steadfastness and loyalty of this guy, and Larry said, "Well, he's certainly raising the bar, isn't he?"
I think I had better make sure I have a good long-term care plan lined up, don't you? Just in case...
And to all of you who asked - Yes, thank you, I am feeling better. My mystery disease has finally gone away. The problem with feeling better after being sick for 2 days is that the house is totally trashed. Which makes me feel sick. It's a vicious cycle. I cannot imagine what this place would look like if something happened to me (like, death, say). Actually, yes, I can. And it's not a pretty picture.
It's late. No, it's not. I mean, it wouldn't be late if the powers that be hadn't made us mess with our clocks. But they did. So it's late. And I'm going to bed, even though I probably won't be tired enough to sleep for an hour yet.
good job on the date. that's the toughest thing for us -- and we just have two kids.
ReplyDeleteYou visited while I was still editing my post, so you missed seeing what I sent you.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you're feeling better.
Was this a date,date...you know, without kids, or anything?
I have found that if you have one absolutely huge blow-out with your family over the state of the house after you a) take a trip or b) are sick, they will live in terror for many years and not leave you such a huge mess!
ReplyDelete(I totally LOLLed at Blood, Fret and Beers! That other tagline, I had thought I made up, but someone told me it's from a Reba McIntire song, and I'm not a Reba listener!!!!!) Thanks for your thoughts--they were fun!
ReplyDeleteYou know they marry us for better or worse, but not necessarily in neatness. Glad you're feeling a bit better! And you have to stay up a little longer- there's a launch tonight!
ReplyDeleteMy husband always says if I get really sick, like, lethally sick, he doesn't want me to linger. He just wants me to die. Right away. Preferably while he's still young enough to get a hot replacement wife. SO. ROMANTIC.
ReplyDeleteConsider the bar officially lowered.
So glad you are feeling better!
ReplyDeleteI've already instructed Mr. Farklepants to remarry as quickly as possible if anything were to ever happen to me. It's for the best.
ReplyDeleteGlad you're feeling better!
As a single mom with a nearly-empty nest, let me give you a big thumbs-up on that long term care policy. I have had one for years. The premium is low, and the peace of mind is priceless.
ReplyDeleteI also have disability insurance. And a small term insurance policy [in addition to the company-paid policy] that I will drop in June, because its sole purpose has been to ensure that my kids wouldn't starve while they were minors.
My own respiratory yuck is nearly gone [doesn't it feel good, to feel good?], and I seem to be having the same sleep issues vis-a-vis DST that you are. Complicated by the Coke that I drank with my dinner last night. I went to bed at 10:00pm, after being up since midnight, and I lay there who knows how long?
I will definitely not be leaping tall buildings with a single bound, today. Though I might still be smarter than a speeding bullet...
Tell Larry that yes, the other guy is definitely raising the bar for other husbands, just as he does by his treatment of you. I am a strong proponent of the weekly date; it's one of the best investments you can make, and it doesn't have to be expensive.
Restorative sleep! You will get up ready to deal with that mess! (Um, I think I'll go back to bed for a little while. Maybe I'll wake refreshed and ready to do battle with the gobs of dog hair threatening to take over the house.) Glad you're feeling better.
ReplyDeleteGlad you're feeling better.
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing husband - but how difficult knowing that the better he cares for her the longer she will live. How cruel life can be.
I am afraid to get out of bed to go assess the damage around here. I would be my left foot that, right now, there is food exposed on a counter.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you are feeling better.
Glad you're better. I laugh because Mr. D and I already have it worked out that he hires full time help in the event of my untimely demise. It's that or social services steps in...
ReplyDeleteYeah, this early messing with daylight savings time isn't much appreciated by me right now. I was just getting used to waking up with the sun out and now I'm back to darkness again.
ReplyDeleteI have one word: EXACTLY.
ReplyDeleteI was away for 2 nights and the place is trashed. Hubby claims I should have seen it before he and the boys tidied up.
And the time change. Urg. I hate spring forward.
I have come to your blog from Just Another Manic Mommy. I felt a kinship toward you in your comment to her post today. I've now read a few of your entries and I still feel that way! So, Hi, I'm introducing myself. I enjoy your blog. Will keep reading.
ReplyDeleteYeah, this daylight savings thing is really messing me up.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you are doing better - hope you are having a good week. See you soon. Kellan
ReplyDeletelove your blog. thanks for the entertainment. and glad you're feeling better.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you're feeling better. Me? My entire head is infected. I may not survive. Thank God for antibiotics.
ReplyDeleteBy all means, figure out a long-term care plan. You wouldn't want your hisband (or *gasp* your kids) planning what to do with you/ where to send you. Think of the revenge they could enact! The horror!!
ReplyDeleteThe worst thing about Daylight Savings Time is that no one lets the kids in on it, so they're still up ridiculously early- only it's even earlier because we messed with the stupid clocks! Grrr! I hate it. (Clearly, DST was devised by a man.)
My hubby keeps threatening to take me on a hunting trip. And only one of us will come back.
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking that I need to look for nursing homes now. What is it with men?!
I think about that all the time, I'm always trying to get them ready for life without me. Morbid, but they wish! If I have a cow and scare them into behaving or cleaning, it only lasts like 20 minutes so old jenn there up above me is in luck.
