I went to bed at 7:30 yesterday evening, in an attempt to catch up on sleep and wake up all bright-eyed and bushy-tailed (whatever that means) this morning. Instead, I woke up at 10 PM and couldn't get back to sleep until past midnight.
Have I mentioned how much I hate the switch to DST? Oh. Okay, then.
Today I took Anna clothes shopping so she could get a nice dress for Easter. (If this were a horror movie, the scary music would start right now.) But you know, the clothes in the stores were so ugly, there wasn't even anything for us to fight over? We managed to find a pouffy sundress with a not-disgusting pattern that wasn't too short. (JC Penney - women's department - I know someone wants to know). It took us 3 hours. And Anna didn't glare at me once. I mean, that I noticed. I hate to think what her mood would have been like had we come home empty-handed, though. Hell hath no fury like a woman unadorned....
Larry took me out for ice cream this evening. Wasn't that nice? We tried to act as though we were single and dating, but I don't think we fooled the waitstaff. Larry might as well have been wearing a ball and chain, he looked that haggard. And I'm not even talking about how I looked. I was wearing a sweatshirt with Tigger on it, okay? 'Nuff said.
You know, March isn't supposed to be a high pressure month; but within the next week, I need to celebrate St. Patrick's Day, bake hamantaschen, create Easter bags, and cook Easter dinner. I think we need to convert to a religion with no holidays whatsoever. A religion, perhaps, that doesn't believe in holidays. Because all this merrymaking is going to kill me. I mean, I'm still suffering PTSD flashbacks from December. Please, won't someone stop the madness?
At Christmas time Social Butterfly and I saw a dress at Marshalls that would be perfect for 8th grade graduation. You bet we bought it. A dress we both like and is affordable? Doesn't happen very often!
ReplyDeleteWe call seminars dates, so I think ice cream would definitely qualify no matter what you're wearing.
ReplyDeleteLoved your "hell hath no fury" comment...so true.
ReplyDeleteNow I have to go Google hamantaschen.
Good luck with the sleeping.
Tonight, my toddler had the same exact nap that you did. He fell asleep in his dinner at 7:00, I put him in his bed, then he woke up at 10:00 when the rest of us were getting ready to go to bed.
ReplyDeleteI finally got him back in his crib, and now, just hoping he'll stay there.
Ice cream definitely qualifies as a date. If we go to Costco without the kids, we count it as a date.
Hell hath no fury like a woman unadorned....
ReplyDeleteHa! That explains the Tigger sweatshirt, then!
Happy Sunday,
Heidi
I know what you mean about not being motivated to get stuff done around the house until you're having company. A few nights ago my DH came in our bedroom (where I was reading in my pjs) at about 8:30 to announce his friend was "stopping over" in 10 minutes. In ten minutes I managed to: get dressed, comb my hair, put the dishes from dinner in the oven to hide them, pick up the laundry and make sure it was all in the hamper, pick up DDs toys that exploded all over the living room, swiffer the kitchen, wipe off the counters, clean out the cat box, and take out the 2 bags of trash in the kitchen, and DH gave the bathroom a quick wipe-down. We've decided that's how we're going to clean more often. Ten minutes of pure insanity...but we were finished by the time his friend got here!
ReplyDeleteSorry this was so long. I check in on your blog all the time! Super funny! And you update often...love that! Good luck with the holiday hoopla over the next week!
I know, Easter being early is a big pain. There should be a Rule that Easter shall be no earlier than April. It's tough to get all into the spring rebirth thing when it's still barely hovering above the freezing mark.
ReplyDeleteLuckily, I can let St. Patrick's Day slip right by. I'm not Irish, and I feel no pressure to make zeppole, either. (Link provided for your non-Italian readers!) Hamentaschen, though, are a must. Yummmmmmm.
This is what we're celebrating today since my parents will be here: Palm Sunday, Feast of St. Joseph (which was really yesterday), my toddler's birthday, my brother's birthday, and St. Patrick's Day.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm sitting here typing this so I don't have to face any of it!
God bless.
Your date sounds fun, and funny! DH and I do that sometimes, go out and pretend we are dating. It's fun. You've been busy!
ReplyDeleteI love that you fake dated. That's so sweet! We count anything alone w/out kids as a date--including Christmas shopping. Yes, married people are lame once they breed. But we also live longer because we're happier.
ReplyDeleteThat is the only way to clean, wait until you have company. And it doesn't even have to be good company, like someone you want to impress. When the painter was here last week I managed to clean up before he got here but didn't do the 479 dishes in the sink. I absent-mindedly asked him if I could feed him lunch. He followed me into the kitchen and I don't know which one of us was more horrified.
ReplyDeleteMarch is insane busy. And then may always seems bad. and then it's summer and you have to entertain them, and then it's back to school and more madness....
ReplyDeleteCareful what you wish for - - - I have relatives in a denomination which doesn't allow them to celebrate holidays. Seems pretty sad and cold to me - - - -
ReplyDeletewhat's hamantaschen?
ReplyDeleteUh, ever met the Jehova's Witnesses? I just stick with the religion I got and only celebrate as much as I have energy for. Here in SLC you can just go to the St. Patrick's Day parade and call it a day. Then I went and got married on St. Patricks so now we ignore it and have an anniversary instead.
ReplyDelete"Hell hath no fury like a woman unadorned...."
ReplyDeleteLove that line!
I like Ross for dresses- and once in a blue moon- I get over to Macy's and dig around and find a retagged item marked down from 1000.00 to like 13.99 lol- I love your blog!
ReplyDeleteI feel a holiday boycott coming on. Who's with me?
