Caveat Emptor

We've narrowed down our car search, and a purchase is imminent. So imagine my dismay when I read this post of the Yarn Harlot's today and realized that I never once thought of checking out the yarn-holding capacity of the inside passenger door. Here I was, obsessed with inconsequential details - you know, minutiae such as having enough seating for our 6 kids and being able to adjust the driver's seat so I can see the road; and all the while I forgot the importance of knitting supplies storage. And no wonder - why, this issue is not even addressed in those shiny brochures they give you at the dealership. I just checked.

I need to call Larry and tell him to hold everything. Fools rush in, you know...

  2. The whole car buying world should be alerted to this issue! Or the whole knitting world ... oh, both I suppose!! Thanks for doing your part to spread the necessary, but - until now - forsaken word!!

  3. The Toyota Sienna has great yarn-holding capacity, but a really sucky turning radius.

  5. Hey, thanks for the comment you left about the bite guard--will check on it as soon as we get back from our son's house next week. Sounds like a lot of money, but if it helps this terrible "face-ache" I have all the time, it'll be so worth it!

Hope you have the chance to do the One Row Scarf if you get tired of the ribbed one you're doing--although I love 2x2 ribbing--and 1x1, even. Although 1x1 can get pretty boring, it really does make a nice-feeling scarf.

  6. Isn't one of your kids going off to college soon? Couldn't you use their seat for yarn storage?
Or better yet, get one of those roof racks on top of the car. It could hold the yarn or a child. Your choice.

  7. We did our part for the economy a couple of years ago.. We did not test drive anything, but tried them on. When your kids are 6'5" and wear size 14 shoes, it's the only way to determine fit.

  8. Oh man. That could definitely be a deal breaker!

Go Now. Take your measuring tape.

  9. You better label your yarn storage while the car is new and never let anyone put anything else in it, or it will be crumby and sticky.

I love my salsa Sienna, though it's very scratched, crumby, and sticky now.

  10. And I thought that cup holders were the all important decision making criteria!

Or maybe that's just me. ;-)

  12. More to ponder...
And is there room enough to stash an empty double stuffed Oreo package under the seat?
    You need hiding space.
Make sure your new car has it.

  13. remember the cup holders. My 15 passenger van only has 4 cup holders. Which genius made that design decision? Also, there are not any seat back storage pockets, only the pockets in the front doors and the glove box under the radio.
