Presents of Mind

Larry called me from work the other day.

"Hi, honey! Did a package arrive today?"

"A package? No," I said. I couldn't help thinking, What a romantic! He's already ordered me something for my birthday and he can't wait to find out what I think of it!

"Well, if it shows up, call me and I'll come home to get it. It's for this woman's farewell luncheon at work."

"Oh." What about my birthday, buddy? "I thought you were giving her that other thing that arrived yesterday."

"Yeah, we're giving her that one, too."

"So...did you get me anything?"

"You? Um, no...no, I didn't. I told you, this is a work thing."

"You mean you were online ordering all these presents for another woman and you never once thought, Gee, maybe I should order my wife a little something while I'm at it?"

Give Larry some credit - he can think on his feet.

"Of course I wanted to get you something, but I need to see what hers looks like first. What if it turns out to be some cheap-looking piece of junk that you're too good for?"

Smart answer, honey. You're right - nothing but a Kindle will do.

    Good thinking!
I have found that having my kids tell my husband what I want works best. You know, have Theo go up to dad when you're not in the room and say, "Hey, Dad, I know what Mom would really like for her birthday: a Kindle!"

  3. LOL that was some good thinking on his part. Hope he gets you something awesome. (I hear the Sony Readers aren't bad either.)

  4. My husband probably would have had me pick out and order something for the person at work.

  5. He is quick isn't he?
    When is your birthday?
About kcinnova's suggestion to have Theo tell Larry what to get you for your birthday. Will that work?
For years I've been trying to get my kids to do that. When CJ was two, I taught him to say "diamond necklace" It never worked.

  8. Ha! Your husband is a smart one. I just this week bought the coffee maker my husband promised me for Mother's Day after borrowing the carafe to my old one and breaking it.

  9. That guy is SMOOTH!! He totally owes you a Kindle and knows it now. Now you just have to ensure that he knows you know that he knows you know he owes you a Kindle.

  10. Smart, smart man. Of course, he's probably sweating bullets right now as he furiously searches the net for a gift . . . with express shipping, of course.

  11. Oooooh! A Kindle! It's been on my Christmas list for years! I hope you get it soon so I can experience it through your descriptions!!! And I like someone's idea about having a child mention it to Dad...that always worked at my house when I was growing up.

  16. I love a man that can be taught over the years. Not that I'm saying that I love your husband, because that would just be wrong. Especially with your birthday coming up and all.

I hear the Kindle is all the rage. Here's hoping.
