Blogher '10 Doesn't Bug Me

In case you haven't heard...

BlogHer ’10 will take place on August 6 & 7, bringing over one thousand attendees together to celebrate 2010.

All the other bloggers are talking about what they are going to wear, who they are going to meet, which parties they are planning to attend. And in past years, left to tend the home fires while the other bloggers party it up,  I've felt a tad disappointed.  I tend to sit around that weekend like a wistful Cinderella,  wishing that the BlogHer fairy godmother had gifted me with a conference ticket and a babysitter.  I avoid reading the after-BlogHer blog posts.  I might even pout a little bit.

But not this year, folks - this year, I'm glad to stay home.  And why?  Because this year, my friends, the conference is being held in New York City.  While I consider New York City to be one of the best cities in the world (and the only place to get a decent bagel), there is one problem with this location.

Did you click?  Bedbug capital of the world, people...New York City is turning into Bedbug Central.  Have fun!  Network!  And sleep tight...just don't let those bedbugs bite...

I'll be sitting right here at home with my peculiar bundle of bug phobias, feeling not wistful at all.

  1. There are a whole mess of dad/SAHD/man blog conferences gearing up for august and september. I'll be going to none. Nor will I be trekking to NYC for Blogher. What're you gonna do? I kind of wonder how all these people, many of whom write about how busy they are parenting, find the time and cash to go to these things, anyway.

Also, Chelsea MA, Katz's Bagels. One place outside of NYC that does not disappoint.

    Also, hi!

  2. I'm happy to stay home where I am bed-bug free. Also? All my travel cash is being spent on getting MM off to college.

  3. I think I would have liked going to BlogHer about 3 years ago--which was before I started blogging. I don't know--it just looks a little big and overwhelming to me.

  5. I have no interest in going to BlogHer. I'm really not a joiner. I read some of the posts after it's over just to see who embarrassed themselves and who got into a fight.

  7. I *would* like to go to BlogHer and meet people. But it's too expensive to travel from New Zealand. (Oh, fairy godmother?) And even if we could afford it, I don't like the emphasis on the BlogHer hierarchy of bloggers. Too much like a sorority.

I do like to read the pre- and post-BlogHer posts. Great opportunities for delicious schadenfreude. Someone should make a BlogHer reality show! xx

  10. Take that NYC! My skin is itching.

I'm not going either--mostly money issues, too. I also have a daughter going off to college this fall.

If I went to Blogher, I might have a great time. But I would refuse to take part in the drama that I have heard about.

I know! When I hear the reports, I keep wondering if this epidemic can make it all the way down here to Texas or if we are safe! Groddy to the MAX!

  13. I've never had any interest in BlogHer. I've already been to high school and not that that's a slam, I'm just not into drama. Life's too short.

And bedbugs? I agree! I'm staying away from one of my favorite cities in the world until they've cleaned up their infestation. Yuuuuuck.

  14. I just learned last weekend, at a pioneer museum, that people used to put jar lids filled with oil under the bed posts to keep bed bugs from crawling into the beds at night and biting people. Perhaps I need to start doing this as I think my fear of infestation rivals yours....

I did not see that ending coming. Ewww! And no, I'm not going to BlogHer either. I was all prepared to pout and feel left out, but now, well now, I'll feel cleaner. And possibly more well-rested.
