Poor Planning

Have I mentioned how much I hate these things?
One would think, after almost 19 years of parenting, that I could handle having 2 fun kid outings scheduled on one day.  One might reasonably surmise that I wouldn't lie in bed wide awake in the wee hours, having panic attacks because I have to take the kids to a place I've never been, find the person who has our tickets, and then not lose 4 children in a crowd of people drunk on fresh fall breezes and free apple cider.  One might even suppose that I would at least have had the sense to both make the lunches and gas up the car last night; that way I wouldn't have to squeeze those chores in between our ice skating lessons and the dreaded pumpkin farm visit.

 But one would be wrong.

  1. We bought - wait, scratch that. I bought pumpkins at the grocery store this year. But youngest is probably the only one still willing to GO to a pumpkin patch ;)
However, we are all going apple picking next year.

  2. Somehow I missed out on pumpkin farm visits with my oldest 3 boys. What? Apparently they didn't have these in Texas, Luckily, pumpkin farms did exist in my baby's preschool world because I love getting drunk on fresh fall breezes and free apple cider. It almost makes me want to have a another kid. Besides, the pictures always look fantastic!

  3. Thank you!! Now I don't feel like the only Mom who feels this way!! My husband called on his way home from work Tuesday and was like hey lets just jump in the car after dinner and run to the cider mill. I swear I had a panic attack!
Oh sure we'll get our 4 kids to scarf down their dinner in 10 minutes flat , drive 30 min in rush hour traffic and get to the cider mill 45 min before they close!! No problem!! Needless to say we did not go, but now we get to go this weekend, plus go on a zoo field trip Monday. Hooray!! (not)
Keep posting I love them! :)

  4. Ohhhh, I'm on the hook for a pumpkin patch visit this weekend, and I'm not looking forward to it. AT ALL. I may see if the kids'll just let us get the pumpkins at the grocery store. *fingers crossed*

  5. Do you lose them on accident? Just wondering...

  6. Pumpkin Patches are one of those outings that always made me re-thing the wisdom of outings.

  7. It's me too. I've been parenting for 12 years and still there are times that things throw me. For example, last weekend, I took four kids to a corn maze and prepared for the day like a general planning an invasion. And then once we were there, I was worried I'd lose a 5th or 6th grader. In retrospect, I should have sent the kids into the corn maze without me, while I stayed outside and had some coffee.

  8. We went to a pumpkin patch with my sister last week. What part was supposed to be traumatic? I must have missed it... We even lost my son in the corn maze, and it turned out okay. We came home with lots of apples and a $4 pumpkin.

Just write your cell number on them and turn them loose. Really, how far can they get?

  9. That was so me last week. With three kids in the car (only one my own), screaming into the gas station to get enough gas to get to the farm and back. I had been cautioned "The tour WILL start on time, with or without you". I wouldn've made it too, if all three kids didn't have to pee as soon as we got there.

  10. I try to stay far away from pumpkin patches. For some reason, it's like an obstacle course for my son. He trips/falls over all the pumpkins. It's like watching Homer Simpson falling over pumpkin after pumpkin.
