You see, over a month ago, I had what seemed like a fantastic idea. I spotted these sparkly orange tutus in Target and told the girls, "Hey! You can be Halloween fairies! We'll put these with a black shirt and black leggings and you're good to go!"
"You can make those - that's easy!"
"And wings, Mommy - we have to have wings."
"Yes, yes," I said, too busy paying the Target cashier to really think about what I was saying. "I'll think of something for that, too. Don't worry."
I'll think of something.

Oh, what a fool I was. Here we are, T minus 4 days and counting, and I have most certainly NOT thought of something. Please, someone - anyone - out there, tell me how to create 2 simple pairs of fairy wings. I am beyond desperate.
Wire hangars, colorful tissue, maybe some sparkles, pray it doesn't rain.

ReplyDeleteYes, check with your neighbors and friends. Wire hangers shaped into wings (two letter Bs put together) with panty hose stretched around them and sequins glued on would work. So would felt wings. And you could make a felt star and glue it to the top of a stick for the wand.

Hangers are great! It may be easier to shape them into half a heart shape. You can use pink stockings for more color! GOOD LUCK!

ReplyDeleteI think parchment paper over the large pipe cleaners. (let them decorate the parchment with glitter glue).

I'm so glad I have boys! Esp. my 11yo, who has fashioned his own costume out of what he found in the rag-bag. (I think he was inspired by reading Lord of the Rings.)
ReplyDeleteMy sister and all her bridesmaids had fairy wings at her wedding (they were also barefoot, to get you an idea of how this wedding went). She took wire, bent it into rough shapes, and used loosely cut pieces of various-colored tulle (to match their dresses) so that there was a 'flowing' character to the wings. I think she just used black thread to loosely bind the tulle to the wire and glued the ends in place in the middle. Then she tied/glued black elastic pieces to make straps for the wings. Shouldn't be too hard, right??

So what did you end up doing? I am up tonight at 10:30 trying to finish up my kids costumes, for school tomorrow. I was just spray painting to create a skeleton chest. But I had to bring it in because it is too cold!!! My house stinks.

ReplyDeleteMy second one is cardboard + glitter glue + markers + ribbons (to tie wings to bodies) + your kids' active artistic involvement.
Or, you could just go to the dollar store.
Holy Cow! Thank you Great Pumpkin that my children are too old for fairy wings, yet still go trick-or-treating and give mama the chocolate with coconut or nuts. Hats off to all you good moms and your amazing creativity.
