Arf!

It rained yesterday, so I popped in the Annie video I picked up for 5 bucks at the grocery store.  I had never seen the movie, but I figured the little girls would love it.  I spent half the movie trying to figure out who was the actress who looked like a young Bernadette Peters, because - hey - Bernadette Peters must be too old to still look like that.

Of course, it was Bernadette Peters -  from 3 decades ago.

29 years old, that movie was - and here I thought Annie had been produced sometime this century.  How old is Carol Burnett now, anyway?  Is she still alive?  And why didn't they do a better job on that stupid movie?  Was it an 80's thing?  Carol Burnett was its only redeeming feature.

And the dog - Rachel really liked that dog...

In other news, I managed to spend 500 dollars on groceries today.  But I bet my Harris Teeter discount card I'll still need to go to the grocery store tomorrow for something or other.  It's a special talent of mine.

  1. Disney remade it recently (the past 10 years kind of recently), and I checked it out from the library for my kiddos. I spent the whole movie trying to figure out why Kathy Bates was Ms Hannigan when I swore it was Carol Burnett when I was a kid... The new Annie's hair was a lot better too. It did take me way too long to realize it wasn't the movie I saw in the theater 29 years ago.

  2. I saw "Annie" in 1979 at the Arie Crown Theater in Chicago, and I remember be bored out of my mind. So perhaps it's not just the movie?

There was a more recent one, and several people I know who are my kids' ages (14yo) argue it's the better one. But the one you have is one of my all time favorite movies! I'm so loyal, I haven't even seen the other one.

  4. Don't feel too bad. I went to the grocery store specifically to get hamburger buns. I spent $25 and tonight as I was ready to plop the burgers on the buns,I realized that I forgot to get the buns. We had hamburgers on sliced white bread. YUCK!

  5. I bet you still have the song "Hard knock life" going through your head. (or at least if you didn't, you do now)
Did you know that Carol Burnette had jaw surgery after the movie was done filming, but then had to go back later and redo a few scenes, so she looks different in a few parts of the movie?

  6. Carol Burnett is alive and well and recently played Sue Sylvester's mother on Glee.

  8. @Jillybean - Actually, yes - all day I was whistling that tune and wondering if there could be a better rhyme with "orphanage" than "fig."

I wish I had known about that jaw thing. But I can't bring myself to sit through the movie twice just to spot it.

Great, now I have 2 songs from the movie running through my head AND a song from Oliver!

I've only seen a live production. I think I'll keep it that way.

  10. I love Carol Burnett in that movie. but I love her always! The thing that bugs me the most is the whole helicopter scene. Did they even have helicopters in the 1930s during the Depression?

I do believe it's the kind of musical where it is better just to listen to the soundtrack rather than actually watch the movie.

I have that same talent when it comes to groceries.

If you want a dog, I'm happy to send Jax your way for a loooooong stay!
Carol is still alive. I'm noticing my age more and more lately.

  13. I have to say, it's a movie I've never seen, but I know all the songs. Sounds like I should keep it that way!

And my grocery sales clerk? Always says goodbye with a "See you tomorrow!" even when I've spent $200 (on only 2 kids). And? He's right. Sigh...

Have just got back from my third trip today to the supermarket - forgot my youngest needed dessicated coconut for a class treat she is making for tomorrow.
Trouble is I didn't just buy the coconut, each time I buy other stuff and I end up overspending. This happens everyday! Well maybe not three trips but at least one or two trips for grocery items. I make a list but then forget it!
I need to get more organized and my budget would be a lot healthier, and I'd be less stressed not negotiating the traffic each time too - Julia
