Is It Halloween Yet?

The Halloween candy lies in a bag in my laundry room, mocking me every time I go down there to throw in a load (3 times a day, people).  In fact, this morning, I heard the Twix Bars call my name.
My pretties...

I searched all the shelves in Target today, looking for mini packages of Hot Tamales to hand out next week.  I couldn't find any.  I found Smarties, I found Twizzlers, I found Mike and Ikes - but no Hot Tamales.  I would have asked for help, but I felt like an idiot, complaining about some missing candy whilst surrounded by approximately 15 billion bags of the same.

So the question remains - WHERE ARE THE HOT TAMALES?  I crave their chewy cinnamon goodness, with an urgency unmatched even by my love of fun-size Snickers.  Don't judge - I'm nothing but an overworked suburban mom seeking comfort, like so many others out there this time of year.

Can I blame this on the Obama administration?  Is it possible that its economic policies have caused massive shortfalls in Hot Tamales production?  And why didn't this come up in last night's debate?  Oh, sure, it was all Iran this and Syria that; but what about the issues that truly matter to us as  Americans?  What does it matter if the troops come home from Afghanistan if there are no Hot Tamales awaiting them?  Apparently we, as a country, have forgotten the things that truly matter.

I guess I'll just go drown my sorrows in a Twix.  But it isn't the same...

  1. At my local store, Snickers and Reese's Cups are sold out already. I am partly to blame...I've been buying them for the rest of the household all month.

  2. If Snickers were in short supply, we could blame it on menopause. But Hot Tamales? Can we blame that shortage on Cuba, or Canada, or universal health care?

I made my husband hide the Halloween candy from me. He did a good job this year.

  3. I usually try to buy candy I don't like so that I won't be tempted to eat it, but then I end up eating it anyway and feeling annoyed that it isn't something I like better. So this year I broke down and bought actual chocolate.

  4. Where are they hiding the Hot Tamales!? It's not bunco w/o the hot tamales. Now I want some.

  5. Yes, I believe there was some discussion of a path to the sea from Iran through Syria--instead of just getting to the sea from the Iranian coast. I'm assuming that means Iran doesn't have any coastline of its own.

  6. Just go to Costco and buy the really big bag of Hot Tamales then keep them for yourself.

    1. Costco? No husband could question a Costco debit entry of less than $100. So... 5 gallon pail of laundry detergent, 5 gallon pail of salsa, and 5 gallon pail of Hot Tamales ...that should provide some camouflage, but keep it under $100.

  7. Hi just wanted to say hello given I have been reading and laughing at your blog and really just standing in awe of you and "Idle Parenting".Oh, I am a real mum of two not a stalker!
And I'm from the Uk, I found you through Crappy Pictures, and I'd like to stick around for a while if that's ok.

Halloween isn't a big deal here. I have two bags of foil wrapped "chocolate eyeballs" to hand out, but that's it really...

    1. Welcome to this little corner of the Internet, Hannah! But Idle Parenting originated with you Brits, so no praise is due here.

  9. I'm with Korinthia, I always have the debate between buying what I like, so leftovers are actually appreciated, and buying what I don't like, so leftovers are eaten by someone other than ME.

I bought Kit Kat this year, which I don't really care for, but the bag rather mysteriously got opened already, and is empty. EMPTY. I didn't have any (really!).

  10. Now that SuperDad is retired, he accompanies me on nearly all the shopping trips to the Commissary. I convinced him to purchase one very large bag of mixed candy bars a few weeks ago, and then we hid it together behind the mixing bowls. This is keeping me from having any of it for myself. (Yet one more reason to not like retirement!)

  11. Several years ago, someone gave us a HUGE box of them. I forget now we they got them. Hummmm, got me thinking now. All I remember, is that is was around Halloween, and I was giving them out like crazy. Wish I would have known then, I would have sent them to you! Come to think of it, I haven't seen any in the stores. Yesterday I did see sugar daddies, and sugar babies. Haven't seen then in eons. I used to crave junior mints, and clark bars. Haven't seen them either. :(
