Impersonating A Gentile

I am inordinately proud of this
So what does a Jew in an interfaith household do on the first night of Chanukah?  She puts up Christmas lights, of course.  It's taken years for me to get the hang of this, but I can now manage to make it look as though I know what I am doing with a long string of icicle lights.  Don't I make a good goy?

In other news, tonight I managed to find the dreidels AND the menorah, all in one fell swoop.  I would like to thank the super-organized me of January 2014, who packed all the holiday things together properly before sending them up to the attic.  I used to be one amazing woman, I tell you.

My only concern is that I cannot find my Tommy Makem and the Clancy Brothers Christmas CD.  I suspect foul play, as Larry has never evinced much fondness for listening to lyrics such as "Pass the porter, pass the beer, Christmas comes but once a year."  Coal in his stocking, for sure...

  2. I applaud your Christmas light hall-bedecking prowess! But it leads me to ask: why isn't the Jew in my household the one who puts up our Christmas lights? It's me, every year.

I am also the one who finds the dreidels and menorah, and EVERY YEAR I am astonished when I manage to find them, in a different place each time.

  5. 1. I like to think of myself as a reasonably bright person, and the husband will confirm that he is brilliant, but every year we gaze in glum amazement at all the Christmas lights that appear magically overnight throughout our neighborhood. We never even saw so much as a ladder -- and all of a sudden the street is aglow. Except for our house where we cannot find the extension cord. Or the lights.

    2. Apparently, last year l /labeled the box/ with the stockings and Advent calendar. Whaaat? It's a Christmas miracle.

    1. I am glad to hear that we aren't the only people who have a defective Christmas-lights gene. Currently, my string of lights is falling down - apparently masking tape isn't what one uses to secure them.

  6. Your lights look great. My motto is, the more lights, the better. But I'm not in charge of the outside, only the inside. Here it is the 19th and the hubby doesn't have any outside lights up. Oi Vey! And the CD sounds awesome! Are you sure those guys aren't Rednecks? They sound like it!
