Take Me Out To The Costco...

I spent 3 and a half hours at work yesterday evening straightening books on shelves. Yup. And then I cleaned a bathroom. After that, I waited for the cashiers to finish counting their drawers. That netted me about 30 dollars. Which almost pays for the pair of jeans I ordered from Lands End this afternoon...

I'm spending it faster than I can make it.

I made an executive decision at work: despite our company policy of asking each and every customer if we can aid them in the book selection process, I will not proffer assistance to a gentleman(?) investigating a tome titled 101 Sex Positions. I just couldn't picture myself walking up to him and saying, "May I help you with that?"

In fact, I hid in another aisle until he was gone. A whole store full of good books and that's what he picks out? Sheesh.

Uncle Matt took me and the kids to Costco today. I'd never been. We ate lots of samples and bought 2 big jars of (you guessed it) salsa. Old habits die hard. Then Uncle Matt treated the kids to one-dollar hotdogs. A good time was had by all.

What can I say? We're easily amused.

  1. The Matron visited Cosco for the first time yesterday! And wrote a thoughtful reply to your astute comments about abortion. . . .

  4. Hey!! You don't know he's not a gentleman. He could be wanting that book for use in a long-term committed relationship. I almost got a similar book for my husband one birthday, but decided we could use our own imaginations and how sexy is it to have a book opened up on the bed anyway? But now I wonder what the store clerks thought of me, especially since I had a kid or two with me...

  5. If my husband brought that home, I would take it as a hint that I'm not exciting enough. And that would not be an auspicious start to a romantic evening...

  6. The bookstore job sounds pretty great, getting paid for stuff you do at home for free! (Well except for the hiding from strangers buying sex books, I've never done THAT at home before!)

  7. My kids like to go to Costco for the samples. My dh calls it free lunch. Yes, he actually stops in at lunchtime and grazes...but only when he's already out shopping at Home Depot or something. It's not worth the drive otherwise... ;)

  8. I am deeply, deeply committed to my weekly Costco run. My roots may be tinting-tardy, my salsa may be spoiling in the fridge, but I will keep my Costco date.

    We could so party together...

    Blessings!

  9. For a few years, I enjoyed a Girls Night Out with a bunch of other moms once a month. We ate dinner, then went to a bookstore for coffee and literary entertainment. Some of us always ended up in THAT aisle which contains the sex books. It didn't matter where we were though, we were rather boisterous for being adults with offspring. You'd have thought some of us were teenagers. It was our chance to allow our inner kids to play but we didn't have to worry about setting a good example to our own kids.

  10. We took all 4 of our kids to Costco yesterday. We told them to fill up on the samples so we wouldn't have to buy them hot dogs;0)

  11. Probably best that you refrained from helping the gentleman, although it would have provided quite a delightful story for your readers!

Costco hotdogs are the best. I love that place.

  16. I dare you to walk up to the man and tell him you know four positions that aren't in the book. I double dog dare you.

  17. I think twitter has your real name attached. Do you really want to link to it when your blog is striving for anonymity?

  18. I think your job sounds so funny! I tried retail at a book store a couple years ago. I lasted a whopping 4 months. Power to you.

  19. Costco overwhelms me. And there is no way I would have helped that 'gentleman' either. Nope. No way.

  22. There are 101 sex positions? Like, with only 2 people?

  23. About the man and the book, there is just no good way to approach that situation. I understand your trepidation completely! Sounds like a good day at work overall.
I am jealous, did you know?

  24. Costco is great, but we spend way too much money there. I bought the executive membership-$100 for hubby and I. For that membership, we get 2% back on all purchases. We got $168 dollars back this year... I also bought my car through Costco a few years ago. You pay $375 over invoice at selected dealers.

  25. I just ordered "101 Sex Positions" on Amazon. No one judges you on the internet. :)
