Dream On
I admit it - I didn't clean out the fridge yesterday. My negligence came back to haunt me in my dreams last night (what is it with all these dreams, anyway?). There were leftovers everywhere; I turned on the oven to preheat it and discovered (too late) that there were Pyrex storage dishes full of food in the oven, their plastic lids melting in the heat. Opening the refrigerator, I found single-serving cups of yogurt far advanced enough in the fermentation process to have burst through their foil tops. There was an entire dinner entree that I had no memory whatsoever of preparing. Larry walked into this scene of housekeeping carnage and said something to the effect of, "What is wrong with you, anyway?"
(A side note here: in the dream, I had to yell at David for attempting to save one of the aforementioned yogurts from the trash. His packrat tendencies irritate me, even in my sleep.)
Is there no rest for the weary? Is anyone else out there tormented at night by their daytime housekeeping inadequacies? Inquiring minds want to know...
My nightmares have prompted me to go into the basement and start going through old boxes of crappe and start pitching things--in the middle of the night. I've also woken up in the middle of the night to start laundry, mopping and sifting through piles of paper. We're a sad bunch, aren't we?
ReplyDeletenot by housekeeping, no. my dreams are mostly being lost on a highway, or missing the exit, or being in school and on test day realizing that i missed a whole semester of a class... you know, archetypal dreams...
ReplyDeletethough last night i dreamed of looking for monarch butterfly eggs on milkweed plants in my garden so i could bring them in and hatch them. that's what i get for watching the "jon and kate plus eight" marathon on thanksgiving day (in which kate had her kids do the same)...
I've just been ignoring mine for weeks. I think it's time to get back on it. Which after several pieces of chocolate and a little blog hopping is what I plan to do today. Although I may bail on it again and just watch movies with the chickies all day instead.
ReplyDeleteThat is really funny! See? You are being punished for not posting your leftovers as you should have for our amusement.
ReplyDeleteI don't have housekeeping dreams, but I still have the one where I'm late, lost, and unprepared for an exam in college. Sometimes I'm back in high school and can't remember my locker combination or where my homeroom is. What's THAT about?
ReplyDeleteOh, and I have nightmares about losing my daughter at a megachurch. Three guesses on what THAT one means... ;)
Nope. I pretty much just have serial killer nightmares. I blame it on my Law & Order addiction.
ReplyDeleteThis post thoroughly entertains me.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, this dream even scares me! Here's something weird, my family (particularly Number One Son) has been plagued by strange dreams all week too. What is up with that?
ReplyDeleteMy housekeeping nightmare is reality. The clutter monster vomited and the spew has been procreating like rabbits.
ReplyDeleteMy in-laws were here 6 weeks ago. The Cool Whip (nasty crap) and plain yogurt purchased by my MIL is still in the back of my fridge. I think of you whenever I see it, but I still haven't thrown it in the trash. Maybe tomorrow?
I think you should take it as a good sign that your worst nightmares revolve around inadequate fridge cleaning.
ReplyDeleteNo,I'm not that specific. I just have nightmares about my general inadequacies. Y'know, like Mothering. Finding a job. Mothering.
ReplyDeleteCleaning since I don't have a job. and Mothering.
My dreams have convinced me never to drive a car as I always end up at the bottom of a three car pile up. Some times there are explosions and bears involved.
ReplyDeleteRecently though I aven't been able to remember my dreams exept for one I had during a nap on the couch. I was travelling from one side of the family to the other carrying thanksgiving food over a bridge and being chased by werewolves. Then I got trapped in my garage/school room and woke up just before they got me.
Oh for sure... If it's just dodgy housekeeping plaguing my dreams I get over it and go back to sleep to dream about it a bit more. it's the dreams about paying bills that I have to get up and do something about. Thank goodness for BPay.
ReplyDeleteI have dreams that DFS is going to take my kids away because my kitchen is so dirty. I have no idea what the criteria for that is, but I think it has something to do with those pesky fruit flies. As long as they are around, I feel like a failure...and they buzz around my kids' heads in my dreams as the women in awful polyester suits are dragging my kids from my house. Scary huh? -b.
ReplyDeleteI once had a dream that I was dreaming about having a dream.
ReplyDeleteI woke up all confused.
At least ... I think I woke up.
I might have just been dreaming I woke up.
Please pinch me.
Oh I have dreams about the most mundane yet bizarre things, like this. Although I have yet to dream about past-date yogurt. That is something special.
ReplyDeleteShe whispers in a Sixth Sense kind of way, "All the time!"
ReplyDeleteMG just came in and told me that there was something dead in the fridge. Does that count? How bad is it when your 17 yo notices it needs to be cleaned out when her room looks and smells like several dead things are hiding in there but THAT doesn't phase her? AACK! I guess I shouldn't have missed the trash pickup this morning after all!
ReplyDeleteI am so burnt out I don't even remember my dreams.
ReplyDeleteI dreamed I was drowning in a sea of dirty laundry. Couldn't swim out cause the jeans kept twisting around my ankles. And all the socks had evil faces.
ReplyDeleteSock puppets are just ruined for me now.
Don't even get me started on my fridge...Hubs pulled out a baggy of ham last night...it was no longer ham-colored. Euh!
