Suddenly Summer

I'm still here; but the summer schedule change has me running hither and yon keeping children busy. We handed Brian a rented trumpet and plunked him in band camp; Rachel hangs out at her art teacher's house 6 hours a day, painting and cooking and doing embroidery - all the things I would be doing with her if I were not totally burned out on the creativity-with-kids scene.

And Susie? Well, we're referring to this season as Susie's Car Summer. She rides around with me, dropping siblings off at various locations, going to Weight Watchers weigh-ins, visiting Target. It's like camp, only less fun.

David has returned from Civil Air Patrol camp, taller (I swear!), thinner, and still happy about the ride he took in a Blackhawk helicopter. Considering that he refuses to get on the Tilt-a-Whirl at our local fair, Larry and I find this scenario hard to believe.

And now that we showed the older kids Batman last night (as part of our educational Jack Nicholson summerfest), David is lusting after a batplane, for sure...

  1. Summer fun is exhausting, isn't it?? We're having a blast: I'm nearly dead.

  2. Tilt-A-whirls are for sissies, anyway! My dad played the trumpet. They make me go all nostalgic for him. . .

  3. Riding around in the car? Isn't it about time Suzie got herself a summer job?

  4. Car summer camp. Oh that sounds way too familar. Except my participant is a 14 year old dementor (thanks for the definition by-the-way). At least you can bribe Suzie with promises of McDonald's drive-throughs. Camp and a memento.

  5. Oh, thanks! I wondered where you'd been. I'm trying really hard not to make this a car summer for the girl. That's the main reason the one week of camp for the boys is at a nature center ten minutes down the road.

And re: your comment, we've had lots of Del's so far. It's my go-to treat this summer, since I don't have to worry about dairy or cones or cross-contamination. It works for everybody with no special instructions required. :)

  6. Poor Susie--the plight of the baby of the family!

  7. I have a Susie too, only her name is Kylie. And every time I need to go drop someone off or pick someone up, she hides under her bed. Sick of the car, I think she is.

  8. Camp Car! I think I'm running one of those too. Hey, at least you're spending time together!

  9. Ah, summer.

I can't wait 'til our youngest is older and out of the car seat - basically able to get out of the car on his own, like the older 2. I hate errands with him for this alone.

Otherwise, he can stay a baby forever. Actually I'd like him to go back to being about 9 months old. That was perfect. ;)

I used to feel like Mr. G had the Car Camp, too. But now it's just me. She'll have her day in the fun sun...HOW exhausting to do all that running.

My summer is like yours and SnakeMaster is having a summer a bit like Susie's (although since he is 10 years old, I occasionally let him stay home by himself).
    Tilt-a-wheel? Yikes! Never again!!
    Blackhawk? AWESOME.
