This is how it feels. |
Today I began yet another season of public humiliation in the pursuit of giving my kids a little fun. It's become a sort of summer tradition, you know, this
First Wearing of the Swimsuit. In a fit of motherly sacrifice, I pulled on that spandex-laced contraption (or, rather,
squeezed into it,
as Susie would say) and took the three youngest to the pool this afternoon.
I swear, it gets worse every year, that swimsuit ordeal. And there's not a darn thing I can do about it. I mean, aside from the
burqini option...
The key to feeling good about yourself in a swimsuit is a skinny mirror. You know, the ones that are distorted just enough to make you think that you actually look that way. As long as no one takes your picture and you avoid any and all other mirrors, you can convince yourself it's true. Also, no matter what you do, never ever look at your legs.
ReplyDeleteDo you think I can find one of those mirrors online? I need it ASAP.
DeleteHey, I didn't give you permission to use that picture of me in my swimsuit!!
ReplyDeleteBy the time I have to wear a swimsuit sans coverup, to swim with my grandkids, the plan is to have my own pool.
ReplyDeleteExcellent plan!
DeleteGood for you for putting your kids before you insecurities. I hope you guys had fun!
ReplyDeleteI have just found a reason to adore this freezing climate. My suit days are very, very limited.
ReplyDeleteGlad to help...
DeleteLOL at the swimsuit pic! This is exactly how I was feeling for many years when wearing a swimsuit! But I have lost lots of weight during the last months and now it is even worse with all that uncovered lose skin! Waaaah!
ReplyDeleteBTW - today I baked my first delicious bread after I finally bought that iron pot yesterday at IKEA, the Best Husband of all wasn't too pleased with the cost of one loaf of bread, lol.
David and I figured out that we save 3 dollars per loaf (as opposed to buying it in the store). Which means that you break even after 17 or 18 loaves of bread...so keep going!
DeleteI envy women who feel good about how they look in a swimsuit. I used to think "If only I could lose 40 pounds, I'd feel AMAZING." Now that I've lost 100+, I still feel self-conscious and frumpy - saggy skin everywhere, cellulite everywhere. I'm seriously going to consider that burquini option.
ReplyDeleteBurquini. That's great!
ReplyDeleteI have a very long torso. I have never found a 1 piece suit that is long enough to not give me a wedgie. I made a modest maternity swimsuit in 2002? It is loose, but I have all the floppy skin after losing some of the 30 pounds I kept after the 2 youngest were born. :(
ReplyDeleteWearing a bathing suit in public is the worst. Actually, the worst is when your kids are really little and stay in the baby pool and you have to be in there with them, only the water only comes up to your knees so you're forced to have your entire body exposed.
ReplyDeleteI swim at the Y and by comparison to the aqua aerobics class I feel both thin and young. And when I'm the least attractive thing around I figure I'm making other people feel thin and young.
ReplyDeleteThat picture is awesome, in an awful sort of way.
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts, exactly...
DeleteUgh. I need to go swimsuit shopping this weekend to get a second suit so we can spend inordinate amounts of time at the pool this summer... but I really, REALLY don't want to do it!
ReplyDeleteI know - my swimsuit is now on its 7th summer (thank you, Lands End!) because it would be too hard for me to find another.
DeleteOh my word! That picture is too funny. That is exactly what it feels like. Although the mom in the picture doesn't seem self conscious at all about her size. I wonder what her secret is???
ReplyDeleteKindly remove that image you took of me -- it's giving me the hives!
ReplyDeleteAnd please hand over the burqini...
