A Veritable Potpourri Of Miscellany

Yes, I'm still here.  I've just been very busy exercising and watching what I eat and NOT LOSING ANY WEIGHT, that's all.  Tell me, does weeping over the unfairness of it all burn any calories?

In other news, Larry informed me that he has to travel for business for another week this month.  But not to a place that has good chocolate...

It's turned hot and humid here again, which is just great - I mean, why enjoy cool, crisp autumn weather when you can instead spend your time schvitzing and being eaten alive by mosquitoes?  It's paradise, I tell you. Paradise.

Have I mentioned how much I love the silliness of the Internet?  No?  Well, I do.  Who wouldn't, after seeing this?

And, for the left-leaning among you, Margaret and Helen, every liberal's (and some centrists') favorite old ladies, are back!  Romney supporters, don't click.  It will just annoy you.

  1. I love eating healthy and gaining weight. It is my favorite. Thankfully, I am very good at it. I am sure it has nothing to do with the wine...

  2. I feel your pain, with the weight and with the husband travel. I just had to kill a large spider in the WASHING MACHINE. Doesn't he know that killing spiders is his job? I knew I avoided laundry for a reason...

  3. I'm trying to figure out how getting rid of PBS is somehow not destroying jobs, and then consoling myself with PopTarts. I don't even like PopTarts, so surely they are good for weight loss. Right?

I'm sorry we have apparently hijacked the cold weather flowing down from Canada. These frosty mornings do not make me want to get out of bed.

  4. Oh yes, I am an old hand at watching what I eat and not losing any weight. Call me Sisyphus. The humidity makes me want to stab somebody, but I just saw that the forecast high temp for Sunday is 54.

  5. I puffyheart Helen and Margaret.

Like Patience, this week's weather makes me want to hurt people. I can't wait for Sunday's cool snap.

  7. For a couple of months I cut out sugar, dairy, grains, and all processed foods and still managed to put on a few pounds. It's a gift.

  8. It was so gorgeous in Flagstaff last weekend--I wore jeans for the first time in months.

  10. Okay....here is the deal. I tried the exercising thing to try to lose weight too. Nothing. I watched what I ate....a little, teeny, tiny bit. Nothing. A friend of mine lost weight. I got over my jealously, and finally asked. Long story short. I gave what she did a shot. I was crabby for the first 2 weeks (which she had warned me about). But, I left those 2 weeks with hope for the first time in probably 10 years. I have lost 40 pounds in about 4 or 5 months. I am not really following this plan anymore...and I have sort of hit a stalemate. But, I do have hope that I don't just have to be the old, fat, mom/granny anymore. The plan is called the 17 day diet. It really cuts out just about anything good for the first 17 days....but by the end of that, I had lost 15 pounds. Oh, and I haven't really exercised in that time frame....except for some stuff with the kids.

  11. Those two are a HOOT.
Keep on keeping on. It takes 30 days of a program to begin to show. Rome wasn't made in a day. All we need is love. I'm cliched out for the moment now. All's well that ends well.

  12. Mine's away next week, but only down in your neck of the woods (for a conference, though, so it's over a weekend too, of COURSE). Really, we get nothing when he goes there. Pfft.

So you know I had to give up gluten when I was diagnosed with celiac? I gained about 20 pounds. This is good--I was underweight, I was unwittingly starving my body of essential nutrients, etc etc--but I don't like how or where that 20 lbs sits. I wouldn't go through with having some tira misu in order to lose weight, but it's not like it hasn't flashed through my mind as an option...

  13. my sister and i were pondering a very important question the other day: what age do we stop fretting and worrying about our weight? i mean, are we going to be 85 and complaining about it?

    i'm just saying ...

and, don't you have a nice mother-in-law or something who can come watch the kiddos while you accompany your hubby on his next trip?
