Star Struck

Okay, your comments on my last post made me realize that I was focusing too much on finding a really neat THING to give Larry for his birthday, rather than just doing something fun.  So I bought him a movie gift card (I know, it's been done here before), and he was perfectly happy.  Because he really doesn't need any more THINGS...

Now with a wicked New England accent...
Theo came to visit us this weekend, and we took advantage of having 2 resident babysitters in the house by going to see Captain Phillips.  People, I've never been a big Tom Hanks fan (although I do think that, if you take any movie Steve Martin has been in and replaced him with Tom Hanks, the movie would have been WAY better), but he was EXCELLENT in this film.  Just WOW.  And, to make my day even better, there was a preview for another movie (coming in December) that will star George Clooney, Matt Damon, John Goodman, and Bill Murray.  "What's it about? " asked Larry, who missed the preview because he was getting our popcorn.

"What's it about?  I don't know.  I don't care.  MATT DAMON.  BILL MURRAY. JOHN GOODMAN," I told him.

He just doesn't get it.

  3. LOL I love Matt Damon (except when he was fat in that one movie ick)

I heard a review of this movie and they gave it 4 out of 4, if we ever get paid again I might have to go see it.

    1. We've got enough left on the gift card to see one more movie (matinee). Unless we sell the card for food money first...

  4. Would that other movie be The Monuments Men? It's on my list.

  5. I thought it was a great movie--though I am also a big Tom Hanks fan. Yes, The Monument's Men. I'm telling you weekly movie dates are the best part of the empty nest.

  6. Thanks for the recommendation. Tom Hanks was my favorite when I was younger, based on his smile. Now he's slipped a little (hello, Colin Firth!) but the man is still a great actor. AND he & his wife produced 2 of my chick-flick favorites: Mamma Mia! and My Big Fat Greek Wedding.

  7. Wait a sec, there was no such preview at the showing I went to of Captain Phillips! There is a Matt Damon/George Clooney movie that I wasn't aware of til about two minutes ago??? Please let it be about how much they fantasize about 40-something housewives and not about something cheesy like the environment!

  8. I agree with you about Steve Martin/Tom Hanks exchange, except Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. I just can't imagine anyone other than Steve Martin in that role.
