5-Alarm Onions

We almost had a major kitchen fire this evening.  I blame the distracting powers of the Internet.

Charcoal - it's what's for dinner.

  1. Charcoal is on the regular rotation here. Now when the kids hear the smoke detector they just say, "Mom must be cooking again."

Glad you were able to put that fire out before it did any damage!

  2. The next time I do that to "hard-boiled" eggs won't be the first. Or probably the last, if I'm honest. The Internet is an addictive thing.

  3. OOPS!

Does it smell as bad as burnt corn?

  4. That's about as appetizing as the plastic lid I melted over chicken in the oven. Unfortunately, I couldn't even blame the internet.

  5. Heh. My husband left a sauce to check something on the computer the other day. And he wonders why I prefer my stainless pans to his non-stick--fortunately the sauce was in a stainless pan, and I could let the resulting burned mess soak for two days and then just scrub it out with the abrasive steel scrubber. (The deal is- he cooks, I clean up. It's not a bad deal as a rule- he's a quite good cook, so long as he stays off the computer while he's doing it.)

  6. Yeah, something similar happened here when I was watching a movie. *sigh*

  7. I once left a hot pad on a burner that was still on. I blame Advil Cold & Sinus. I got new hot pads for Christmas that year, lol.

  8. Oh dear. When I saw the title, I thought you were posting a recipe for some very spicy onions.

  9. It could be worse. I remember my mom somehow setting the Thanksgiving turkey on fire when it was roasting. Actually she did it two years running. Fireman thought it was funny the first year and starting getting concerned the second year. I took over cooking shortly after that......
