Now, I know a lot of you women out there are thinking, "Hey - why didn't I get bananas? How come I'm sitting here with all this jewelry and chocolate and no bananas?" I'm afraid I don't have an answer for that. I guess I am just one lucky gal.
But wait - it gets better. Larry read the above and sought to correct me:
I didn't get the bananas to match the card. I got the card to match the bananas.
[Confused] You thought the perfect Valentine's present for me was a bunch of bananas?
Well, yeah. I thought of you, and I thought of bananas.
[Puzzled silence]
Remember? The other night, in the ER? The nurse said your blood test showed you low on potassium?
[More puzzled silence]
So, I thought bananas! They have potassium!
[Dumbfounded amazement]
I was going to get you the card with a bat on it, but it wasn't G-rated.
Sometimes, ladies, it's best not to know what the menfolk are thinking.
I've posted this video before, but it begs to be repeated. I'm willing to bet, however, that when Humphrey Bogart is looking at Audrey Hepburn flirtatiously winding up that old Victrola, he isn't thinking about bananas.
Oh, that's classic.
ReplyDeleteMake sure you don't bury them in the fruit basket and forget about them...
Oh good lord.
ReplyDeleteThat's too funny! He sounds very thoughtful, though. I got my husband a card that, upon closer inspection, clearly indicates it was for a MAN to give to his WIFE. Ooopsie!
ReplyDeleteHe was thinking. Just not the right way...
ReplyDeleteThat is kind of sweet--in a simean sort of way;)
ReplyDeleteIt is bad to be low on potassium! Did I ever tell you my banana story? I was 9 months pregnant and got the most horrendous stomach flu. I thought I was going into labor the stomach cramps were so bad. After a violent 24 hours where my body tried to rid itself of everything it had ever consumed, the cramps suddenly moved into my legs. I had horrible star-seeing painful cramps in my legs. I remember writhing on the floor screaming for my dh to get me some bananas because I knew it was from being so low on potassium. The darling man had gone out earlier in the day to get bananas to settle my poor tummy. So he ran down and got some and in between feeding me bananas, he massaged my legs and comforted his poor hysterical wife. Ever since then I've always thought a man's caring about your potassium level as a sign of true love!
ReplyDeleteThat required a lot more thought than a box of chocolates--I like it!
ReplyDeleteYou mean we're supposed to figure out what is swirling around in the grey matter of the male species? It got to be too painful, so I stopped trying that stuff.
ReplyDeletenow that we know the whole story, I for one think that was very sweet.
ReplyDeleteBananas, that's a first for sure. But if he wants to keep you healthy, he must want you around for a long time. Or, maybe he wanted to "monkey around"...did you think of that. Men are ALWAYS thinking of that aren't they
ReplyDeleteOMG that's too funny!
ReplyDeleteIs this what I have to look forward to with my husband? A bunch of bananas. Wow.
ReplyDeleteI can honestly say that I've never been given bananas as a gift. You do need to give him points for thinking about what you need.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I'm pretty sure that chocolate has tons of potassium it it, doesn't it? And I also heard once that wearing diamonds will somehow increase your potassium level.
that's very sweet in a typically male sort of way. i hope he got you ripe bananas....
ReplyDeleteI totally laughed out loud at this post....right here in the office! I can guarantee that's the same line of thinking my hubby would come up with!
ReplyDeleteBrilliant - but yes, it's best not to think....their brains are wired differently to ours!
ReplyDeleteI got three months supply of chocolate....which is very lovely....but what happens after the three months?
My husband thinks outside the box too.
ReplyDeleteI love this.
Hahaha! Their brains really are wired different from ours, aren't they?
ReplyDeleteMens's minds are mysterious creatures, all right! Weir logic. I was craching up at the part of him seeing the bananas and *thinking* of you... lol!
ReplyDeleteWell, that was romantic in thought--he wants to keep you around! But I'm laughing for real nonetheless. He found a card to go with bananas...giggle!
