My friend who participated in the knit-along sent me the instructions (and all you copyright fiends, don't worry - I do own the original pattern, I just couldn't make head nor tail of it, all right?).Anyway, I started on this 12-day project, oh, 20 days ago. I just finished Day 4. Meaning, I've got 40 days to go - sort of like the ancient Hebrews wandering in the desert for 40 years, only shorter, and with some cheerfully-colored Lion Brand CottonEase. I don't know how they managed all that time without CottonEase.

Oh, joy! Larry has agreed to designate this coming weekend as a "let's get rid of/organize/hide all the extra crap in the house" extravaganza. Isn't he nice? Of course, it may have had something to do with my suggesting arson as a reasonable way to tackle the growing mounds of paper and junk that are threatening to engulf us. Or maybe he just hates to see me cry. He's nice like that.

This week my big four are all away for Spring Break, I really need to get busy with my own organization crusade. The thing is though, I am having a hell of a time concentrating with all the quiet. Crazy, I know. The baby and I went to the grocery store on Saturday and it was a disaster. I never use a list, but in absence of the usual mayhem I could not remember why I was there. Scary.
ReplyDeleteOh I have not suggested arson to the hubby. Great idea! I'm trying that tonight. I can no longer stand the useless piles of crap building up in our home! We have boxes in our basement that have not been opened since we moved here 7 years ago. Time for them to go!

I think a bonfire is a perfectly wonderful way to get rid of junk. You can have marshmallows and s'mores while you burn! You can't do that so easily while going through things the "traditional" way.

WOW! We just cleaned out the library/sewing room/den yesterday! Must be spring.
ReplyDeleteI organized all my fabrics and pinned little pieces of paper to each one, so I'll know immediately that I don't have enough of anything to make what I want. ;) Now, all I need is a new box of pins...
So arson is still an option? I have some stuff to send over, and a lighter.....

Hubby always wants to get rid of my stuff, never his. He has at least 10, 18 gallon, totes of papers to sort, courtesy of our little munchkins who unloaded the 5file cabinets for him. He has 6 10 gallon totes of computer parts under our bed, plus 3 non working pcs and 2 servers in our room (piled in front of and on top of my small bachelors chest), 1 dresser, one bachelors chest, 1 cedar chest, a computer armoire, a recliner and 2 bookcases in our room. Not to mention the 10 ft by 20 ft workshop that is so cluttered we can barely walk accross it. I have a small table for my sewing in his locked workshop.
ReplyDeleteMy 3 18 gallon bins of sewing stuff (material and patterns) are in the attic. I have 1 large suitcase of yarn and my bachelor's chest as a dresser in our room.
I keep telling him the being a packrat is an obsessive/compulsive trait that can be treated by medication. He blames his parents, who grew up during the great depression and rarely threw anything away. I think that if something is broken, with no easy/inexpensive way to fix it, just throw it out. At least his saving stuff helps sometimes. We have another power supply in the computer stuff to fix the 10 yr old IBM Aptiva with windows 98 on it that died yesterday. The only reason I will fix it is that all the little kids reader rabbit games will not run on my Vista machine, nor on the server 2000, server 2003 or windows 2000 Professional. Anne refuses to allow the munchkins to use her XP machine.
I just spent the last two Saturdays cleaning out the garage---and it is still not done---I detest it!!
