Pin What?

So - I joined this site here, because people kept talking about it.  But now I have no idea what to do with it.  I mean, everyone is just looking at pictures of what other people like?  It's like blogging, I guess - only with no words...or funny stories...or anything...

Now people are "following" me, but there's nothing for them to see.  Should I "pin" pictures of my superannuated leftovers?  Snapshots of Larry's kill?  Cute photos of the children vomiting? Or is that just not done? It could be that I'm just too lowbrow to be a "pinner."

Is that what they call them?

  1. Oh honey! It's just a place for you to bookmark your ideas/interests/likes but with pictures instead of words. Maybe it only works for a certain type of person?

Here's what to do: title a board "Knitting" and pin projects, ideas, favorite patterns, etc.

Next, title a board "Appliances" and pin all the appliances you want. Show it to your hubby and save yourselves a trip to Sears.

Etc. See? That's how it's done. (But only if you WANT to, 'course.)

(And happy birthday! I was telling my husband about you and your longest-day-of-the-year birthday.)

  2. My post today is about things I don't get. Pinterest is on the list. I got invited to join pinterest, joined, looked around and wondered a lot. I don't get it.

So, when you do, will you explain it to me?

    Thank you.

  3. I joined it as well and like you, I have no idea what to do with it. All of these bloggers were talking about how WONDERFUL it is and blah, blah, blah and I'm like HUH? When I bookmark something, I keep forgetting to bookmark it in Pintrest so I guess it's my fault for not being able to see the wonderfulness of it all...

  4. I use it to bookmark things, but visually. Some people use it as a virtual inspiration board. Artist-type people--to include knitting designers, sewists, graphic designers, etc--will often clip images of things they like or that inspire them and hang them in the studio. But so much of what we see is digital now; this gives folks a way to do it online. It doesn't work for everyone, and that's not how everyone uses it. I mostly collect ideas. It seems loads of people collect quotes. And I still bookmark stuff the old-fashioned way too.

  5. I had never heard of it until reading your blog but of course I went there and found some great recipes to try -- do ALL things lead to food!?

    Happy birthday :)

You joined there? I only lurk. It's quite enough for me to only lurk there. Absorbing all the wonderfulness of it.

  9. I didn't pin anything for some time after I joined either. But then I would find something and think-I MUST share this with the world.
And sometimes I find something that just amazes me that someone else pinned and I feel like I just won a teeny tiny lottery. I redid my living room wall based on a Pinterest photo and it came out PERFECT.
