And if I did manage to hang them up outside? They would just get covered by bugs or fall in the dirt. Or both. You know, if I wanted to play pioneer woman, I could have just gone on living in our pop-up camper in central New York. At least we didn't have mosquitoes up there.
Look, I'm angry. I rage against my dryer-less fate. Next will come the bargaining - dear Lord, break the stove, break the dishwasher, but give me back my clothes dryer. Haven't I suffered enough?
What DO I do with 2 loads of wet laundry at 11:30 at night? Anyone?

Most laundromats are open 24/7?????
ReplyDeleteYes, but how safe would you feel sitting in one at midnight? Around here, not very...
DeleteHang it on hangers from a doorway &/or over the backs of chairs & put a fan on it?
ReplyDeleteDo you have a basement where you can hang them? Or the bathroom? Do you have a standing fan you could turn on them?
ReplyDeleteI don't think anyone understands the amount of laundry we are talking about here. And if I tried hanging all of it in the basement, I'd risk finding centipedes on it in the morning. Gah. I'm thinking I'll rewash them in the morning and beg one (or more) of my neighbors for the use of their dryers.
ReplyDeleteTo remove the sour/mildew smell from the laundry, instead of using more detergent, use one cup of white vinegar per load in the wash. That will remove the sour/mildew smell and they will be just fine.
ReplyDeleteYou should move here where we live. Very low humidity*. There's a house for sale in our neighborhood:)
ReplyDelete*My daughter hung her wet jeans In the garage and they were dry in a few hours.
Wow - I'd be scared that I'd send the kids out to play and find them lying on the lawn 2 hours later, completely dessicated.
DeleteOn the other hand, they wouldn't be making much noise that way, would they?
We often start the laundry the night before and have several loads washed before we go to bed. Then we hang them up first thing in the morning so they can dry faster. Both today and tomorrow ought to be good drying days, I hear. I'll be taking advantage of the break in our rainforest climate.
ReplyDeleteMove to Colorado. 'nough said [smile].

No suggestions. Just made me think about my grandma's stories of doing laundry in the basement when she was a girl, and helping her mom carry all of it up to the attic to dry where it froze solid, and then they spent the whole next day ironing to thaw it all out. (But anytime you have laundry in Milwaukee you are welcome to borrow our dryer!)
ReplyDeleteBefore your oven breaks, bake some brownies. Go to all the neighbors who have working dryers, and beg to use their dryers, offering brownies as you beg. Then divvy up your laundry and send each load with a different kid to each neighbor's dryer. The final part of the plan is to leave the clothes at the neighbors' houses and you will never have to do laundry again.
ReplyDeleteBrownies, eh? Hmmm....
DeleteI'm speechless. This is absolutely BRILLIANT.
DeleteLG should have stuck to making phones. Their laundry products mostly suck.
ReplyDeleteOur basement in VA had moisture issues of its own (ran the dehumidifier much of the time) so hanging laundry down there didn't work very well. It was the subject of one son's science experiment.
ReplyDeleteAnd you are right, the result of hanging laundry outside this time of year (at least out there) is only creating a new gnat colony.
So while I'm late to the party, I second the vinegar tip (my college kids' towels no longer stink, hooray!) and spend time chatting with a neighbor over coffee while your laundry dries at her house.
Now excuse me, please, while I go pray over my washing machine. It has been scaring me lately.
I have had this happen and thank goodness my neighbor knows I'd do the same for her if the tables were turned. I will say that I have never gone 24 hours without a working washer or dryer--my husband knows that might just make me snap.
ReplyDelete"How humid is it?" ... "HOW HUMID IS IT?" I watched a PBS special (complete with fund-raiser breaks) about Johnny Carson, and it was a trip back in time when they showed monologue segments with those interactions. And then my other favorite part was watching pictures/footage of Johnny smoking indoors. Ah, nostalgia....
ReplyDeleteIs Johnny Carson the originator of that bit? I thought it was just a vaudeville thing.
