Elizabeth? Is that you? |
But Elizabeth McGovern is freaking me out. Whenever I hear her name, I picture her as she looked 25-30 years ago. The last time I saw her in a movie, I think it was "She's Having A Baby" with Kevin Bacon. Before that? "Ordinary People."
So, each time I see her face in Downton Abbey, I experience a shock -- and I'm thinking it's pretty much the same shock I feel whenever I look in the mirror and don't see a young 20-something woman looking back at me.
Just more of my Rip Van Winkle syndrome, I guess...

ReplyDeleteOh, I love that show. Love it.
ReplyDelete*sigh* I had neighbor kids turn up today selling candy for a band fundraiser. A millennium ago, I was a member of that same high school band. Now, nobody will ever guess it. I feel your pain.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the show! Can't wait for season 3.
ReplyDeleteThe most shocking thing about Elizabeth McGovern is how bad an actor she is compared to that all star cast! Eventually you'll be mostly unable to stand a second she's on screen. But the others? Geniuses. All Brits of course.
ReplyDeleteI was looking at the facebook page of a friend I went to high school with. She had gone to a party with some other people who graduated the same year we did. I had to laugh at how much these people looked like their parents, then I realized that we are the same age now as our parents were when we were in high school.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I'm not the only one surprised by the face in the mirror. As if the aches and pains in the morning weren't enough of a clue.
ReplyDeleteare you just now discovering this series??!!
ReplyDeleteactually, i shouldn't talk because i came on board after season 2 when someone loaned me season 1 on dvd. of course THEN i had to wait until season 2 came out ... the drama behind the series is me trying to catch up.
Does this make you feel better? I'm sure you can pull this look off, too!

I keep forgetting to watch my magic box, so I've only seen the first season online via my OTHER magic box (my laptop). It's time to start watching again (even though I find her a little creepy, too). TV shows are never on at a convenient time for me.
ReplyDeleteI love Downton Abbey. Can't wait for the next season.
ReplyDeleteOk, I don't know if I even know what Elizabeth McGovern looks like in her younger years. Now I must find out!

p.s. I popped over from Mama's Minutia.
I have yet to experience Downton Abbey, but hope to take the plunge next week. I am glad I don't remember Elizabeth McGovern from her earlier years.
ReplyDeleteI totally felt the same way when I saw her in that role. Haven't seen her in YEARS I guess.
ReplyDeleteI lovelovelove Downtown Abbey and am impatiently waiting for the next season.
ReplyDeleteI find EM's voice as Cora to be odd. Is it real? Was it like that 25 years ago and I don't remember or is this a result of either aging or the fact that she married a Brit?
Notice how many servants they had to have -- because they had no clothesdriers.
