Priorities

Well, after much debate and lots of peering at TripAdvisor reviews of campsites, we have committed to spending a week this August in Maine, at Acadia National Park.  We were there once before, 5 years ago (and here let me pause and weep over the pictures of my children, all 5 years younger, in that beautiful place - oh, the chubby cheeks and happy smiles of the then-non-teens!); but that, my friends, was before our questionable decision to buy a popup camper.  You see, back in 2009, we indulged in the luxury of a rental cottage near Acadia; but this year?  We are opting to save 800 bucks on lodgings and spend it instead on eating out.

Definitely worth a second look

In other words, I'll sleep in a trailer and share a spider-filled bathroom with strangers if that means I DON'T have to cook on vacation.  Wise decision?  Discuss.

  1. I've never stayed in a camper, so I can't really say, but cooking while on vacation can be a real chore, so I think it might be worth it. Have fun!

  2. If there is going to be Lobster, I would sleep with the spiders.

    1. Hey, that could be my Native American name - Sleeps With Spiders. Nice ring to it...

  4. It doesn't have to an unknown: park the camper in the driveway and live out of it for a weekend.

    1. Are you suggesting that I do EXTRA camping? Either you don't know me or you don't like me, one of the two...

  5. Acadia looks beautiful! I wish I could go there.

Cooking while camping is utterly exhausting. I think you've made the right choice. Except... how far a drive is it from the park to someplace to eat?

  6. Ah, we loved our trip to Acadia. Camping is a whole lot easier if you don't have to cook. Enjoy those meals out.

  7. Acadia is wonderful! I have the best memories of it from my childhood and am beginning to think I should return some day.

You realize this trip means you will be driving by my house on the way, don't you? I'm a mere 5 minutes off the highway. I think I should be the lunch stop for the day. Let's talk!

  8. Whenever we go camping my husband does most of the cooking. It's great!

  10. I somehow convinced my husband that he is supposed to do most of the cooking while camping. WIN!
