Every Memorial Day weekend, though, a bunch of folks ride by here who don't need to search on the Internet for something meaningful about this day. This is the weekend Rolling Thunder takes over our roads, and I don't know a soul who begrudges them that privilege. Unless you have actually seen it, it can be hard to imagine how it feels to see thousands of motorcyclists making a pilgrimage to our nation's capital, all heading for that candlelight vigil at the Vietnam War Memorial.
A LOT of motorcycles happening around here... |
Goosebumps, people...it gives you goosebumps. Maybe because it eloquently demonstrates what this day is all about - the importance of remembering the fallen.

I'm sorry I missed that!
ReplyDeleteOh my. I bet there are no words to describe that!
ReplyDeleteGoosebumps is the right word. So powerful.
ReplyDeleteThey had a similar thing about 2 years ago here--2 miles of motorcycles headed to Lambeau. I got terribly choked up watching all of those people ride past.
ReplyDeleteI'm so thankful I no longer work sundays. The sight of all the motorcycles that gather at the 5 sided asylum is breathtaking, however, it does make the commute on that Sunday challenging.
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful--it is stirring just to read about.
