Sounds more irritating than an unhappy 3-year-old |
So I've just added "buy fans" to my errand list for today. I'm not even going to pretend that this task is going to be any easier than last time. Which, for the record, was 4 years ago, and one of those fans I bought no longer works. Or, rather, it works, so long as you don't mind its emitting a piercing whining sound while it operates. I don't need a fan to keep me awake like that - I've got kids who can do that job just fine.
Homemaker Man, to his dismay, has recently discovered The Giving Tree. You can read his profanity-laced diatribe about this inexplicably lionized piece of children's literature right here. Or not. As you wish.
Enjoy your weekend, you lucky folks with air conditioning!

I hear Vornado fans are excellent and even a little wearying with the constant blast of air. Vornado plus block of ice?
ReplyDeleteNo AC here, though I think it should be on in the theater. Which is a good thing as I will be wearing enough clothes for four people.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday-ing!
Happy birthday, Susie! Stay cool.
ReplyDeleteSide note: My toddler thinks that upright fans like those are the perfect place to store Q-tips.
We don't have a/c, but today we also don't have much sun, so that works out.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to your girl!
Last weekend we needed the AC - it was 90 or so. This weekend it's cloudy, which has put a cramp in some plans I had.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to Susie!
We haven't installed any of the wind ac's yet. I should probably take a few apart tomorrow and clean out all the dirt, cat food, etc the little kids fed them while they were being store on the porch before we put them in the windows?
ReplyDeleteAlso, thanks for reminding me, I need to buy 1 new window ac at costco after work today, as the one in the upstairs hall makes a very annoying squealing sound, like the bearings on the fan motor are going. ;0
I hate that book. And I can't imagine not having an A/C right now. I'd wrinkle up like a raisin and die.
ReplyDeleteAfter many years of less then faithful service our central ac died. No way we could afford to replace it so we brought window ac's. I haven't left my room all day. I'm not sure how much longer we can go without food.
ReplyDeleteOh, this made me laugh. 10 years ago, I could have managed okay. But now? By the time the repairman showed up, Larry and I were pathetic, cranky blobs of jelly. We just couldn't function. The humidity here is incredible.
DeleteOurs died 3 weeks ago. We made it through 10 tough days in FL before we broke down and spent more than we did on our most recent car purchase, on replacements. Ahhhh, another payment. Given the fact that I start to sweat profusely when the temp rises above 75, I can't believe i live in this state. Sadly, 3 kids also inherited this trait. I loathe The Giving Tree and Homemaker Man's assessment was hilariously spot-on.
ReplyDeleteWe did with fans for years and years, but our new house has central air an it's so nice to come inside and escape the heat! But there is also something about just going with the weather at hand and just succumbing to laziness on a hot day. (That said, I'm still glad for our AC on a day like today!)
ReplyDeletei seriously need to be on facebook less. i read "buy fans on to do list" and was wondering why you would need fans on facebook if your post is about AC expenditures? oh dear....
ReplyDeletei live without AC (not too common in germany) and given that the temperatures are what you have to endure right now i feel for you!!!
Imagine my surprise when we moved from NoVA and bought a house without a/c! I keep telling myself that we really only "need" it for 2 weeks each summer, that it cools down at night to give us a break even then, and that it is not a big deal.
ReplyDeleteRemind me of this in late July or early August, right around the oldest son's wedding and multitudes of visitors. I'll be parked in front of the fan...
I live in Arizona and if our AC went out it could very well be a matter of life and death. Meaning, if it wasn't fixed ASAP I would probably kill someone. But I wanted to comment that my dishwasher has been broken for over 2 weeks and every time I'm hand-washing the multitude of dishes, I think of you. :) Especially since the hubby and kiddo have been home sick all week.
ReplyDeleteA really good dish-drainer makes all the difference!
DeleteAlthough, now that I have my brand-new used dishwasher, I don't understand how I managed so long without one.
I have two fans, both made in America, both as old as the hills and thank God, they both still work. Lucky me.
ReplyDeleteThat "Giving Tree' post was awesome--I've thought the same thing about that book, not so eloquently, of course, but it always struck me as weird and not beautiful like everyone else says it is.
We threw in the window ac's for the bedrooms last evening. I went to install the AC's in the rest of the house this morning, and found one of the 12,000 btu ones I bought at costco last spring is not working. It makes a humming noise and the fan and compressor do not turn on. I can return it to the costco in Winchester. I do not have to bring it back to the one in chantilly where I bought them. However, I need to find the remote first, which hubby thinks is in a dresser drawer in our room, maybe. They are all labeled, he bought a label maker a few years ago, so I should be able to match the ac/remote easily, once I locate the stash of them.
