Parenting Ain't A Cakewalk

What? You don't recognize it? I'll give you a hint - it was David's birthday. Now do you see it? No?

Yeah, well I don't either. David was attempting to create (in the admittedly difficult medium of cupcakes) a replica of a Saturn 5 rocket atop his cake. He apparently takes after me in decorating skills, poor dear.

And if you knew how long it took me to get that picture on here, you'd be disgusted. Almost as long as it took to make the cake, all right?

It tasted good though. Totally wrecked my diet.

Job? What job? Am I supposed to be working right now? Bummer.

I received my annual parenting shot in the arm today at our local homeschool conference. That's right, Dr. Ray Guarendi was once more on hand to remind me that

I am the parent.
It is MY house.
It is MY computer.
It is MY television.
It is MY cellphone.

Sometimes I just forget the basics, you know? You can click on that link if you need a refresher. Or go to his website - Dr. Ray has a great sense of humor (let's face it, he needs it - he and his wife are raising 10 children).

My font keeps changing. I don't know why and I can't fix it. That must mean it is time to go to bed....

  1. I wanted to get to the conference SO BADLY this year!!! I love Dr Ray...and everyone else that was on the roster!
Maybe next year DH and I will hire a sitter and "get away" for a couple of days...
of course, we'll have the new little one with us, but nursing babies are always welcome...
everyone gets their "awwwww" fixes for a while!
    Blessings, E

  2. I can definitely see his influence in the way you parent. The strictness and the humor.

I read some of his articles and I felt like he was speaking to me with his reminder about treating teens with the respect you expect from them. Sometimes, when my two youngest, have gone 16 rounds with each other and I am DONE, I could use that reminder.

  3. I think David's cake looks WONDERFUL.

I'm sorry I missed the conference. His humor was calling to me, but my husband kept insisting that HE wanted attention. Silly man.

  4. Hey - I'm impressed by the cake. I usually can't even get frosting to stay on the ones I make.

  5. Frankly, I can't stand to be around parents who are too afraid to discipline their kids because they are afraid to hurt their feelings or what it'll do to them.

Last weekend, my daughter acted in a not so nice way towards me so she missed out on a Sea World day- while her friends went. We just returned home earlier...she was just beside herself...I bet she won't say that shit to me again though.
