Summer Livin'

Whew! I spent a long time today searching for a beach we would like in Maine.  I finally landed on Scarborough Beach State Park/Pine Point Beach, but it took a while.  If anyone has a better suggestion, let me know.

Looks good to me....
Then I had to inform Larry that he would not be allowed to put his diabolical plan - you know, the one where he drags all of us through the mountains of New York/Vermont/New Hampshire for 6 days before going to the mountains of Acadia for a week - into effect.  I mean, hello? Rachel and Susie are the only kids who even get enthused about a family vacation anymore; and they have waxed rhapsodic about the 2 days we managed to get to a beach last year while at Cape Cod.  I did promise Larry that, when he retires and it is just the two of us, he can take me to all the mountains he wants.  But this year, we are GOING TO THE BEACH.  And then to Acadia.  Hey, the kids do have to have something to complain about later.

Gosh, I hope it doesn't rain.  Is there anything worse than rain on a camping trip?  I don't think so.  Again, it would be one thing if it were just Larry and I, curled up cozily in our pop-up camper, reading while rain drummed on the roof.  But with 4 kids, 2 of whom accompany us only under protest? A rainy day feels about as cozy as the Donner Party.

I think I'll end on that lovely thought this evening.  And a question: where are you planning to go this summer?  Not that I need to give Larry any more ideas....

  1. At the end of August, my husband and son are doing their male-bonding driving road trip from California to take the son to Boston for his first year of college. I will fly to Boston and drive home with my husband, which will be a marriage-testing kind of trip. He has promised to actually STOP at places I want to see, instead of me having to take pictures out the car window at 65 mph.

    1. Torture him further by making him stop at all the Little House sites...

  2. We'll probably end up in NY state for a few days this summer. I have to see who wants to go see grandma, hubby's brother and SIL or my sister. #10 really wants to go to grandma's, but not by herself. That means either #2 or #4 will go with her. The 4 girls who still are at home are going with my cousins to the fireworks near Silver Springs for the 4th of July. They will spending the night with cousins, then my cousins are taking them to the big amusement park near there for the day Saturday. Is that a SIx Flags place? Of course, they did not invite the boys. They invited #4, who is their god daughter and it evolved from there. Sometime this summer, there is supposed to be a all boys cousins party at their house, for #5, 6, cousin's son and her nephew.

  3. So, this is two vacations in one? Sounds great! Something for everyone!

The only thing worse than rain on a camping trip is a hurricane on a camping trip. Oops, maybe I shouldn't have said that.

We are going to New York City for our vacation. So no beaches OR mountains for us.

  5. We are going camping in a couple weeks. I can't wait! I love camping. Last year it rained and totally flooded the girl's tent. That kind of put a damper on things.

  6. We are going to the beach but it will be camping on the Oregon coast with 20+ members of the extended family. Can I hope for no rain?
For the 4th of July we are going camping in Canada, just like any good American.
