7 Quick Takes: The Unnumbered Edition

Until noon today, Ree at The Pioneer Woman is donating $.10 for every comment she receives on a post where she is giving away two $500 donations to the Haitian-related charity of the winner’s choice. Let's see...if I donated 10 cents for every comment I receive....hmmmm......that would come to about 2 dollars. With Ree, however, it's real money - I think she has 400 commenters already. So get on over there and earn your dime, will ya?

****************

That's right - I've given up on the numbered list. It was maxing me out, technologically speaking.

****************

I think Tuesday was delurking day, but most of us forgot it - what with earthquakes in Haiti and all. So let's delurk today, shall we? If you don't usually comment, just say hi! I'd love to know who bothers reading this silly little blog. Supposedly 420 people have me on their Google Reader - I only know about 30 of you.

And, yes, I know I have the wrong year on the logo. When you steal stuff, it doesn't always fit. And if I can't handle a numbered list, I sure can't handle designing my own Delurking Day button. It probably requires pixels or something.

***************

The Little Blog That Could - good idea for a children's book? Discuss.

**************

The problem with not having a numbered list is that I have no idea what number I am on. Excuse me while I check...

5. This is number 5. I had to count twice, because I lost track the first time. That worries me. I used to be good at math.

***************

I've figured out how to irritate Larry out in January. I just whisper sweet nothings into his ear, words like "FAFSA" and "taxes." It's fascinating watching his neck veins bulge out like that. I guess Larry doesn't consider complicated financial forms sexy.

Me? I'm just trying to count to 7 here.

*************

You know, #1 up there won't be very useful if I don't manage to post this before noon. So it's time to say good-bye for now. I'm so glad we've had this time together...

Warning: Do not search "Carol Burnett" on YouTube - you will be sucked into the wayback machine and waste a good 2 hours laughing at Tim Conway and Harvey Korman, wondering just what was up with men's fashion in the 70's, and trying to explain to your kids why the drapery rod in "Went With The Wind" is so darn funny.

[Make sure to visit the real 7 Quick Takes at Jen's place. Jen is too young to make you listen to stories about variety shows from the 70's, thank goodness.]

  1. Pioneer Woman has something like 24,000 comments now. She may have to put a cap on her donation!

We're getting a lot of personal stories in our area - turns out the 4th largest Haitian community in the country is in NYC (not too surprising). And at least 3 churches in NJ had mission trips down in Haiti at the time. Most seem to be ok so far. Unbelievable tragedy in a country barely able to cope with regular life.

  2. I'm going to tax my husband with sweet nothings. Great idea. He has big neck veins and I love to pluck them, figuratively speaking.

  3. Now I'm about to go waste 2 hours on you tube. Thanks a lot. I hope the kids can get their own lunch.

  4. Yours is the one place I can guarantee will make me laugh out loud. That's why I keep coming back. Well, that and the whole nightly unscrewing of light bulbs in the ceiling fan thing we have in common!

  5. I'm heading on over. :) thanks for sending us that way!

    and "HI"

Hope you have a great weekend!

  8. Pixels, eh? I've got those. Just emailed you an updated graphic.

  9. Hey! What's wrong with variety shows from the 70s? Beats reading another Survivor re-cap.

Aside from Went with the Wind, my favorite Carol Burnett skit involved Tim Conway as a cross-eyed prince who managed to somehow fall up a flight of stairs. And now I'm going to head straight over to YouTube to find it.

  10. Remember Harvey Korman not being able to keep a straight face when Tim Conway was acting funny? I loved those guys! And I can't play Sorry with the kids without doing my Eunice imitation.

  11. Taxes, honey-do lists, children's report cards, oh, the fun things we do to make our men go wild.

I quit counting ages ago. When I temporarily forgot how to write out the number two on a check, well that was the day I decided I'd lost to many braincells during childbirth. I rarely go over the number six. As long as I can count to six I know I've got all my kids.

  12. Ugh! FAFSA! Been there, done that, waaaaay too many times. So glad THAT'S done! (one advantage of getting older and having adult daughters who can fill out their own damn FAFSA if it needs to be done!)

Just de-lurking here. You're in my reader, so now you know thirty ONE of the folks who read you regularly!

    TGIF!

  13. 24,608 comments. If I could do math I'd say that was 2,460 dollars she's donating.

  14. Up to 24,911 now...I'll bet it hits 25,000 in the next half hour before noon, central time. That's pretty amazing.

Please don't scare me with your FAFSA. My daughter just had a meeting with a financial aid counselor, and texted me to ask who claimed her on taxes. We did last year, of course, but this year I have no idea since she lived with us the first half of the year, and now lives with my parents. Being 800 miles away, I have no idea how to help her. Gah.

  15. OK OK I'm commenting. I am an avid lurker and hate to be outed but you guilted me into it. I love your blog!

    ReplyDelete
  16. howdy doody. you're on my google reader! so maybe now after today you will be up to 40 or so people you know that read you!

    ReplyDelete
  17. I'm one of those mystery lurking Google subscribers, but I'll pop up to say hello. Especially since you made me smile with the Carol Burnett Show memories. Ah...nostalgia. And you can't scare me with your FAFSA. I'm an ignorant Canadian and I have no idea what those letters stand for. I refuse to google it either. La la la la la....

  18. I think I've delurked before - but just in case. I enjoy reading your blog (have for the last 2 yrs). Thanks for the story about your ice scraper Xmas gift -- I did mention it to my guy just in case he got any strange ideas.

  19. Here's my delurking "hi!"

  20. Thanks for the 1st - I commented. It makes me feel like I'm donating even though I haven't actually laid out any cash.

I was led to your blog by that wonderful photo of me (I still look that good you know - I love plasic surgery). I stayed for all the wonderful vomiting stories, which I'm sad to say have decreased in number.

  22. YouTube sucks soooo much of my time.
That's a lotta readers, lady. Dang.
I'm with you on math. And last night was checkbook night which I hate.

  24. Well, shoot -- I missed the noon deadline. I hate it when I clean the house instead of spend time on the blogosphere.
When I'm not following you in my reader, I'm whispering "FAFSA" in my own hubby's ear. That might be why is he running away this weekend.

  25. Harvey and Tim were the funniest! I loved that show.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Went With the Wind and Mildred Fierce were two of the BEST...But the Office Guy and Mrs. Wiggins came close to splitting me up everytime, too. LOVE Eunice & SOOOO-RYYY!!!!

  27. Hi, I'm Tina. Delurking per your orders. LOL I don't have google reader but have your blog on my blogroll. I read every time you update.

  30. Thanks for Carol Burnett. I watched reruns on late-night TV. Went with the Wind makes me almost pee my pants every time I see it. Maybe instead of Leno and O'Brien, NBC should hire Carol to do the Tonight Show. I'd watch it then.

  31. 25,585. Wow. (Didn't see it in time, but she may be glad for that by now.)

    ReplyDelete
  32. (Oh, oops, 25,850, brain blip. But who's counting.)

  35. Well, I've been really, really busy with work and stuff, so I'm re-de-lurking. Hi!

  36. I turned my daughter on to Pioneer Woman and then she went to her book signing and got her photo on Ree's blog. You go daughter, Ree and Sandra Bullock who just donated 1 million dollars to Doctors without Borders. Wouldn't it be great to have a gazillion $ to give away. Go Bill and Melinda and Warren.

Oh! How I need you! I laugh every time I read your blog...I only read it about once a week, but I always go to the date I last read, and then catch up from there. You are appreciated!

  38. Delurking as requested to say "Hi."

    "Hi!" : )

I guess I'm a "real" lurker, because I don't have a blog or "follow" (or even Facebook, for that matter.) But I arrived via "Conversion Diary", as I have before, and will again.

  39. I saw Carol Burnett talk last year and she was great. She even did the Tarzan yell.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I'm late to delurk, but I guess I'm not really a lurker, just a very hit or miss commenter. Either way, hello.

    Have a nice day.

  41. Late, very late. Love your blog - you make me smile.

Question: can you recommend an easy, really easy for the beginner, pattern for socks?

Thanks - one of your faithful followers.
