Swinging

Miracle Cure
I'm not talking to Larry any more, because he gave me his stupid cold.  21 years of marriage, and he does this to me.  I swear, it makes me want to holla.  Except I can't, because my throat is sort of sore.

Pass me the orange juice, will ya?

This is me tomorrow, only with Dansko's.
In other news, there's an election here in the States tomorrow.  Who knew?   Life has become officially insane - the price, it seems, of living in a swing state.  Facebook posts from the past two days make the Civil War seem like a little spat between close friends, by comparison.

And yet, "swing state" -- it sounds fun, anyway.

Dear Lord, just let it all be settled Tuesday night.  We can't take an extra month full of court cases and recounts.  Save us from ourselves, please.

Maybe I'll have a bit of vodka with that juice, come to think of it...

  1. I'm not quite at the point of screaming at all the political calls, but close. Vodka sounds eminently sensible. I'm going to be *so* glad at 8 pm tomorrow when the polls in my city close and all the campaigns and pollsters stop calling us.

  2. I brought a cold home from my quilting weekend retreat (also, an unfinished quilt).
I think I will give it* to my husband in your honor.

*The cold, that is. The quilt is a Christmas gift for our oldest ds and his bride.

  3. I'm in a swing state (Florida), and today alone, I have gotten no fewer than NINE phone calls about the election. I've had several people at my door, and one of them rang my doorbell EIGHT times in an attempt to get one of the five registered voters to open the door. Which, since we didn't know that person, we didn't open the door.
I am sooooo sooooo over this election, and even more over the pushy and overbearing behavior of politicos who volunteer for these campaigns.

And I pray civility prevails as the results are released.

    1. You poor folks - the election is over everywhere but in Florida.

  4. I was trying to explain what happened in the 2000 election to my kids tonight and it sounded like fiction. That it came down to a state where the governor was the brother of the guy who took the election.... I'm with you. I just hope it's decided and done by the end of the day.

  7. The very thought of a recount sends chills through my spine.

  8. Every time I think about the election, I am reminded of ancient Rome in the days after Caesar, when the elite would happily kill off anyone who wasn't part of the ruling class and then dole out free grain and hold free games to make the rest of the populace happy. These days, it's just held on an international stage.

  9. Have you seen this picture? It might make you smile. (I think the vodka is a good option, too.)

It makes me intensely happy. And it just so happens that we are friends with both families (though we know the people on the left---both figuratively and literally---better than the ones on the right).

  12. Hey, how are you feeling about the results? Got to say, I think I'm pleased, not that its my business but it does impact on world politics and from what I've seen my preferred candidate won. Sorry if you aren't planning to discuss politics, I am just interested!

    1. Extremely happy. We worked hard to make sure that the politics of obstructionism wouldn't be rewarded and that policies would be laid in place that will benefit future generations of America. Also? Relieved we won't be bombing Iran on Jan 22nd and that the US administration won't be giving Israel a free hand in the Middle East. Disappointed in the House results, however...Congress has a 10% approval rating and the GOP was allowed to keep its majority? Sheesh.

    2. Quite a complex political structure I must admit to not fully understanding it all, eg Congress /House of representatives. I guess because our political system does not have an equivalent structure really...even Red and Blue are different here (Our old school, conservative/rightwing politicians are represented by the colour Blue!). I am naturally liberal in my politics so President Obama is certainly more representative of my views.
I hope the policies in place come to fruition for you all.
