The Horror! The Horror!

Wow - I've just become Exhibit A in the Icine forum topic "Things That Are Terrifying #451: Mommy Bloggers".

Context is needed, but not given, by this author - herself a mommy blogger. Her genteel tone when talking about all this is elevated to all the more horrifying by the realities of being a mommy blogger.

The horrifying post? This tongue-in-cheek jeu d'esprit, written over 2 years ago. Would it shock the person who linked to it to know that I have at least double that number of blogs in my reader now? And should I be flattered that she considers my tone "genteel"?

  1. I was actually at the Bloggy Boot Camp in Baltimore last Saturday. The NY Times folks seemed very nice and engaged and were treated warmly by all the bloggers in attendance. I have already read the article, though I think it will be in Sunday's print paper. I can't help but feel a little betrayed (along with the other ladies). I really don't know how she, herself a "mommy blogger", missed the whole concept of what was going on there.

  2. Well, of course you are terrifying, but, not in THAT way. j/k

Last week was just crazy busy, and I 'fell behind' in my blog reading, when I started a marathon session of catch-up, I counted how many blogs are in my reader, there are 29, and few of them post more than 3 times a week, but, I would have sworn there were 62 the way I struggled to find time to read them all.

  3. Bad press is good press. ;)

When the poster knocked Dooce I could tell she doesn't get the tongue-in-cheek stuff.

  4. You've just got to face the fact that some people don't get you. They take to heart the things you mean in jest. Obviously, they are lacking in the humor department. Keep on keeping on. We love ya just the way you are!

  5. The number of people popping up in response to that article who have no sense of humor or irony is staggering.

  6. I think all this fuss is about the Mommy Bloggers that take themselves too seriously. The NYTimes article is pretty fair I think.

You would never take yourself too seriously. Also, we wouldn't take you too seriously! And? You were so right (if tongue-in-cheek) about the level of addictiveness of this particular hobby.

  8. "genteel" At least it wasn't "gentile." Big fat hairy whatevs to that article. I got half way through it before I got sick of the snarky judgy tone in which it's written. Your back, I gots it.

  9. WhatEV! A little child neglect makes for healthy, independent children who know how to wipe their own butts because they get tired of waiting for mom to get off the computer and come do it. So to that article, I say NYAH! And also: Poo poo heads! Because I am mature.

  10. You are only terrifying in the fact that you blog AND accomplish all the rest of your life each day. Me? Not so much.

  11. Did you see the people posting on Icine? "Rainbow Party"??? Seriously? Ew. Anyway. I wouldn't worry too much about those folks. We Mombloggers are the best, and that's about all there is to say.

    Except "I love my minivan!"

  12. I am so tired of people who can't interpret tongue-in-cheek, sarcasm, irony, etc. What is wrong with them? Are they not taking their vitamins? I follow several mommy blogs and there are always the select few who decide to make rude comments because they clearly DON'T GET IT. Kinda glad my blog isn't popular. I'm all about the sarcasm.

Keep up the good/evil work! I'm a dedicated follower. I get it!
